WSJ reports the company is still losing "about six cents for every dollar of PS3 hardware sales," i.e. if Sony were to sell the consoles to retailers for $300, it'd technically be taking a hit of $18 each time.

Talk about consumers winning. Wow. I thought they'd be profitable by now.

That's a shame because they still need to come down at least $30 to be genuinely competative with the 360 (though, that's actually probably already too late since this generation is already half-way past its lifespan).

Maybe the 360 is halfway through it's lifespan but from the sounds of it Sony think the PS3 will stay a lot longer than it's rivals. They say God Of Wars the first game to really push the tech. Maybe Sony have a more long term plan.

Pretty dangerous tactic, the next Xbox could wipe the floor with them potentially..

The real problem is that most developers aren't even trying to push the tech and most never will. They are putting games out on both consoles, developing for the 360 because its in more homes and porting to the PS3. That's a tough obstacle to beat simply by being determined to sell the thing longer.
