Crimson Laurel Presentation - Torynn
« on: May 24, 2012, 12:48:31 AM »

Greetings Guardians,

It's been a true pleasure for me to see Mik and Dren recieve their Crimson Laurels these past few weeks. Before we're accused of handing these things out like party favors, I want to assure everyone that this simply isn't the case. I'll consider this last award as my Crimson Laurel Hat Trick and don't intend to nominate anyone else in the near future. However, I think we'll all agree that this Guardian is more than deserving of this honor. It's a joke amongst military personnell that the individual in charge of giving out the awards is usualy the most decorated soldier in the unit. The same can't be said about the Guardian we all know as Torynn. Torynn has been a Guardian for nearly ten years. He was my very first Commanding Officer when I was a young Commando in Star Wars Galaxies and later served as my Senior on the Guardian Council during one of his tenures as Assistant Guild Leader. If we kept service records in TG, Torynn's would look something like this:

Facts about Torynn (Brian Pasche)

- Guardian Member since October, 2002
- Served as one of the first Guardian Officers in the role of "Squad Leader" in Star Wars Galaxies
- Served on the very first Guardian Council that was selected by Alazar, Uncle and Gus
- Served as a Councilor under all three of TG's Guild Leaders
- Served as the Assistant Guild Leader two separate times under two different Guild Leaders
- Served as an Officer in the WoW Division
- Actively serves as a Ventrilo Administrator

As impressive a record as it is, it's not just the titles he's held and the jobs he's performed that earned Torynn this Laurel. Over the last ten years, he's been a stalwart Guardian through thick and thin. Any time there has been a major decision to be made, Torynn has been right in this thick of things. Always championing the Guardian Code and Creed, he's been a moral compass four our organization. In-game, he's always been a ready ear, willing to listen to anyone and everyone who had concerns or ideas. He's been a friend to many of us, always willing to help a Guardian in need. It's the man behind the titles that won this award. And it's my sincere Honor to present Torynn with the  Crimson Laurel.

Here are a few things that Torynn's guildmates had to say about him:

Quote
As with Dren, who recently received this award, Torynn is definitely most deserving.  He has represented the TG code and lived it for as long as the guild has been around.  Through bad times and good, he has and continues to lead the guild both in the visible vanguard and behind the scenes.  His roles as conciliator, negotiator, and intermediary may have gone un-noticed, but he has helped to mold, form, and hold this guild together and make it stronger.

I heartily support his nomination.

Quote
I would definitely support such an award for Torynn; even when he's occasionally 'stepped back' for a break from whatever current officership(s) he holds, he's STILL always involved, always helpful, kind, cheerful, and always finding a way back into a position of Guardian leadership because he's awesome and we need him there ^_^  In other words, he has demonstrated well the Guardian value of Duty.

I met Tor in WoW during my initiate period (I had an in-game formal interview and 30-day initiate period with a Vanguard protector).  He would always be reaching out to people to be helpful whether it was via Q&A, anti-ganking, dungeon-running, or crafting.  He has always maintained a positive attitude, which in my opinion is one of the best ways to get everyone coordinated and happy and in a general state of getting along.  All this excellently showed the Guardian value of Camaraderie.

While I don't have specific examples for them, throughout all his above and other actions he's demonstrated admirably Guardian Honor, Loyalty, Maturity and Integrity.  I count myself lucky to have Tor as a friend and guildmate as my life would otherwise be the poorer.

Quote
Torynn is definitely someone who deserves the highest honour award. I am sure I am not only talking about myself when I say that Torynn regularly goes out of his way to make sure everyone is happy and everyone's opinion is heard. I have not gamed with him and I know him only through the forums and ventrilo, but whenever I needed a hand he was there, whenever I needed advice he always had the best advice for the situation.
Torynn definitely deserves the highest honour this guild has to offer as he earned it the hard way. I am also sure that there is not a single person here that does not have the utmost respect for Torynn.

"Tortor has always been there for anyone and everyone.  No offense, but I honestly can't think of anyone who deserves it more."

If I had to think of someone in the guild follows the TG code the most I would say it would be Torynn. He also makes sure everyone else follows the code as much as possible. Because of his efforts the ideals of the guild stay intact outside and in-game. I also appreciate the fact that he looks at both sides of the table when there is a stressful situation. All around he is just a nice guy who is in a position I think is perfect for him. Long live the Ass.

Where to begin, I’ve know Brian for over 6 years.  He was the assistant guild leader at that time.  He always had time for the totally lost person (me) in WoW. And believe me, Jacen had no problem pawning me off on other members when I had questions, and I had a lot of them. I never felt like a bother to him. I’ve had the pleasure of playing side by side with him in raids, and I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so much or had such a good time since those raids.

He is the best friend that anyone can ask for. He’s helped me through very trying times with both of my parents. He was there to hold me up and pull me through when I needed it.  Meeting him in RL was a great pleasure. He has a wicked sense of humor.

He served as the interim Division Leader in Wow when we were going through a very trying time. He was the calm through the storm. I may not agree with everything he has to say, but I respect where he is coming from and his knowledge. . He has a way of sorting through the madness and coming right to the point to settle any issues.

I believe he deserves this award because of everything he had done and continues to do for the guild.  In years to come I can still see him doing the same.

He’s poured his heart and soul into this guild, and helped make it what it is today.

FREE TORYNN! anyone?

I'm still quite new here, relatively. Even so, I can already see that much could be said about Torynn. Even looking at the Code, it seems to me that he fits every one of them, too.

So I'll stick to commenting on one:

Duty – A Guardian will remain active in our community by participating in any of our online activities or maintaining communication through our website and forums. Guardians who become inactive without notice are subject to removal from our roster.

The announcement of Torynn as Assistant Guild Leader, and the subsequent   months, saw as many "ass" jokes as congratulations. Heck, I'd argue that we're done congratulating him, but we're not done with DAT ASS.

But it didn't go down like one would think having read that. Sure, Torynn once again bears the heavy mantle of leadership and duty, but he wears it like the People's Champion, in a way.

He doesn't walk around the forums under a cloud of Duty, he embodies Duty by doing it. He takes the Code definition of duty and adheres to it 100 percent. Seems to me that he actually goes well beyond the Code in regards to Duty.

And he has a smiley. Really, need there be more?

Quote
Torynn definitely deserves this. He has such a great ability to be funny and spontaneous yet not stray from what the task at hand is. He is a great leader and person. I look up to him and he inspires me to strive to be a better Guardian. Thanks Torynn for all that you do. <3

Brian (Torynn) is one of those people I look at as being part of not just the heart of The Guardians but her backbone.  He has consistently found himself involved in TG's leadership at all levels since the beginning.  He has been a constant champion of the Guardian Code and Creed.  I have only fond memories or Torynn and hope to add more to them in the future.

Quote
Torynn is one of the people I loook up to in TG. In the few months that I have been around I have witnessed his kindness and generosity to others regardless of how well he actually knew them. He is an honest man who I can turn to if I have any issues at all and I will know that he will not lead me astray. When he became an official ass...err assistant guild leader I knew that this guild was definitely the guild for me because the leaders were true leaders. Plus the dude has a smiley after him...I mean really how can ya beat that?

Quote
I have only been a Guardian for a little over half a year, but I still can see the way that Torynn has upheld the Guardian Code and Creed. I don't have any specific events or memories to share, but I can tell by the way that Torynn has made some of the more recent members like myself feel at home that he is worthy. I had no idea he had been around for nearly ten years now, nor that he had been in an officer/councilor position for so long. It takes dedication to our core values (and to us) to stick around with the kinds of responsibilities he's had for this long.

I had to go look up what the Laurel meant, because I am fairly new and had to refresh myself. In my eyes, he's the face of the guild (I know you're the leader, but I've never played a game with you or talked with you at length, unlike Torynn. No offense meant   ). Torynn handles his numerous responsibilities and still posts on the forums very regularly, and during my time in SWToR he was still very active there as well. I have seen what kind of man Torynn is, and based on this I give my full backing on this nomination.

Quote
Tor is the man. He's always a positive guy to talk to, he gets animated, and he's also his own smilie. Having known him since he came to TG, it is with great pleasure that I endorse this nomination and say: he has been my friend, and he will always be my friend, even when his new wife doesn't let him play video games.

FREE TORYNN!

Congratulations to Brian on this well deserved award. Don't think this means you can start slacking. I still have work for you.. and if your wife really does make you stop gaming, we'll recreate the Free Torynn RP event in your front yard  :torynn:

Holy Blindside Batman! :P

You guys sure surpirsed me and slid that one in there on me. Wow! Shocked and pleasantly surprised everyone. :) I am truly honored and humbled. My motto has always been "Servant Leadership." :)

I have always told my wife that you all are my extended family. Even moreso than you all probably understand. When I joined TG it was when I was in the military and always traveling and moving around. You gain some very awesome friends in the service, but sometimes drift apart after a change of duty assignment. But that was the greatest thing about being here at TG. No matter where I go, where I might be you all are always a mouse click or a ventrilo/mumble transmit button press away... you are always there, for good times and bad. And for all that I thank you all for being my friends and family who have helped me through all of my rough times as well.

Oh and just for the record, the wife does not ever say I cannot play... though she may peek her head in, tap her foot and ask me how much longer I might be.  ;) She is a little sensitive to it as her ex-husband was always blaming her for stuff she never did or said and that he did not have the testicular fortitude to admit to his friends was his own choice. She really is great and lets me play when I want to... so long as I keep accomplishing that 'honey-do' list.  ;D

I thank you all, you are the best group of extended family I have ever had!

<S> Tor, your resident Ass.
