Here we go with:  Skyfall

Big shoes to fill being a Bond film, and in my opinion Quantum of Solace was a pair of Uggs.  Skyfall was much better thankfully, but does not reach the level of Casino Royal in my opinion.  Lots of action and light moments of humor sprinkled through out made it very enjoyable but the movie seemed to stray away from the Bond formula that has worked so well, the intro was a different take and the Bond girl(s) were background dressing at best.

The story was interesting and the villain was interesting but not likely to become any ones favorite... i mean come on how do you beat the Jaws and Odd Jobs of yester year.  I think one of the best things (that some movies have realized) is that home isn't boring.  The last Bourne movie brought him home to the US and this movie brings Bond to the UK instead of jet setting around the world... but mind you there is a fair bit of jet setting and some pretty interesting backdrops.  Actually some really neat looking locals.

In my lifetime i have only known two Bonds and for my money Daniel Craig is fantastic, i will always love the oldies and especially Connery but i will be content with as long as Daniel Craig continues to order those martini's and wearing that tux here is to a few more films i hope!

Sorry guys, been a while.  Life and stuff made it so i don't get to the movies as often, but also there haven't been that many movies i have wanted to review to be honest, though this summer that will change, so much good stuff on the horizon!

Well since today is the release date for it:  The Hobbit
This story will always have a special place in my childhood, and now the movie will hold a special place for me too, i got engaged on the day i went to go see it!  I have to say that the intro to this movie that gives you all the back ground to set the stage is one of the best parts, nearly 10 minutes long but it sucked you in and gave you a bit of action before sending you to the shire for a bit of down time and comedy.  After the shire it is just one encounter after another, it really made me want to go back and re-read the book to see if everything was done that fast or if they were cramming to get stuff in the movie.  They did add somethings to be sure, but stayed pretty true to the story.  Being the first of three, it is just the tip of the ice berg and look forward to the next two movies.

Next up we have:  Oz the Great and Powerful
Not gonna lie, i went into this movie wanting to see it but being kind of meh about it.  I was totally blown away by how much fun i had watching this movie.  I will also suggest something i have never suggested in this thread:  go see it in 3D.  The 3D had the normal gags with things being thrown at the screen and such but they also use the 3d effect in times when its just scenery, whether it was fog or something floating in the air in the fore ground it just made a lot of the scenes pop, and give you that whole magical land of Oz feel.  The original film was and still is one of my favorites, i used to watch it every year it was on TV until they stopped doing that when i was in high school and i was sad then about it!  This story explores a lot of different parts of OZ and a bit about the witches, though somethings are still a mystery.   And in yet another surprise all the women they got to play the witches, kinda hot not going to lie.  At the end of the movie all i could describe it as was fun, it really was fun to just sit and watch this movie, so kudos to them to pulling off, if not a successful follow up to the wizard of Oz, at least it wasn't a flop or let down.

Iron Man 3

Man being in a committed relationship and being an adult kills my movie going habits!  Got to see this one a bit late but glad i got to see it in the theater!  Eye candy abound for the 3rd movie, lots of different suits and special effects as to be expected.  Would have been nice to see in IMAX but alas that wasn't in the cards.

Format of the movie was a bit different from the others so be sure, and i am not sure why but they made it be at christmas time and it had no bearing that i can think of on the story, the only thing i can think of is that the Blu ray / DVD will be out for the holidays maybe?

They did a good job of making it a wrap up if needed, I think that Robert Downey Jr has one more movie on his marvel contract and that is Avengers 2 so if everything goes to hell and there is no Iron Man 4 they wont leave a bunch of things hanging in the air but at the same time i don't see how this franchise could not continue unless one of the parties developed an allergy to money.

I have the series of comics that this story line was loosely based off of so with that knowledge in my head there were still many surprises in this movie.  The Mandarin was awesome, as to be expected since the man who played Ghandi was taking on the role!  The hoopla about the plot being about bombings being insensitive is blown out of proportion, this was very clearly planned long before the Boston bombings and had some things in common but that is just because terrorism and terrorists stick to a pretty standard playbook.  All that this movie had was the misfortune of bad timing.

As always with Marvel movies stay through the credits for a little chuckle, but to be honest this one was a little bland, so it's up to you to stay or not.  Overall i had a great time and look forward to many more movies with RDJ as Tony Stark.

Star Trek: Into Darkness

Went and saw this Saturday in Imax and boy was Imax worth it, really wish you could see Imax movies with out the 3d and just get the giant screen and great sound but alas you have to take the good with the bad.  I actually can't wait to see this again later this summer in a double feature at my local drive in.

A good fast paced movie for those that aren't Trekkies and a lot of homage to former movies and episodes for those who are.  If you are like me and stuck your head under a rock and sung lalalalaala to not know anything about the movie you will be duly rewarded.

My fiance actually asked to go see this movie after watching the first one on TV and seeing an add for this one, that's how much appeal this movie brings.   There are some corny parts and maybe an eye roll part or two, but hey it wouldn't be a trek movie with out those things right?   There is a few things as a Trekkie that didn't make sense from what i know but the movie just kind of steamrolls any doubts that you have about that kind of stuff because of all the pretty lights and the oooh and aaahs that this movie inspires.

This movie is a must see for me, if you pinch your pennies and only see a limited number of movies this summer put this one on the list.  In this review you notice i said nothing about plot or characters.... and i wont except to say that not knowing can be fun.  If you have Imax near by i would go see it there, i drove 45 mins to go to mine.
