I think I speak for everyone when I say we all hope we're wrong and there's plenty of hardware to go around and no delays. But, I'll be really surprised if they produce enough units.
Their release timing is almost suspect in my mind of intentional very low volume to hedge their bets and then ramp prior to the 2017 Christmas season based on reception. Safe and smart... will be interesting to see what they do.
If my memory serves me right, the first run of the Wii selling out so fast was a surprise even to Nintendo. The subsequent runs were restricted on purpose to keep the demand up. They may
try some form of this tactic again. The buzz around this one is generally positive so far. I've been listening to IGN's "Nintendo Voice Chat" podcast*. One thing they pointed out about the announcement trailer was that there was nothing shown to prove that the tablet part was in fact a touch screen. This isn't to conclude it's not
a touch screen, especially given this thing is not only the replacement for the Wii U but the 3DS/2DS as well. I think it needs to be touch capable.
*I LOVE the name of this podcast. I started listening just this year so I haven't heard their reasoning for calling it that, but I can assume it's a jab at Nintendo's refusal to introduce VOIP to "save the kiddies".
