Remembrance Day
« on: November 11, 2011, 07:28:22 AM »

Veteran’s Day (Remembrance Day / Armistice Day / Poppy Day) is typically a day that is held in high regards for many people, so too is it here at The Guardians. We remember those who gave their lives to protect us during the conflicts of the 20th century and beyond, and to those brave men and women who continue to heed the call to service to protect those whom they do not know.

Myself being a former Military Service Member I also hold this holiday in high regard as not only have I lost friends in the line of duty, but come from a long line of patriots who have served. There are also many current and former TG Members (too numerous for me to list here) who have also served, and whose family members have served. Each of us can probably remember a family member from years past who has served, most notably being the World Wars, and to that we give honor and remembrance.

Today, November 11th, we give honor to those who have shed their blood, given their lives and whom have put their lives on the line for their fellow man. To those who have served and died in the line of duty since World War I, we salute you and you will always be remembered for your sacrifice. To those who currently and have served, we salute you for being willing to lay your lives in the defense of others.

A day dedicated to you and a free meal just does not seem like enough, but hopefully the gratitude of those that you fight for gets close. They are the bravest of the brave. Without their sacrifice the world would be a terrible place and I know I would not be here. Much thanks to you service men and women past, present and future for taking the call and stepping up to be the true heroes of the world.

We live our daily lives free and safe because of those who have served and are serving now.  We owe you everything we have.  Thank you.

I know we have several active duty military in the guild; and I know we also have a bunch of former military in the guild.

You all you; thank you for your service.  Your service and sacrifice is what has allowed all of us the freedom to have the lives that we do.

Toby Keith is one of my favorite musical artists; and he is a huge supporter of our troops.  I offer you a song of his that he wrote as a tribute to you all.

On this day I remember my grandfather who flew 68 successful missions as a pathfinder pilot in the second world war for the Royal Canadian Air Force. They were only allowed to fly a total of 65 but because his crew came on late and he refused to stop and stuck with them to make sure they got home safe.

He later died test flying a prototype plane after the war when my father was only 7 years old. To the grandfather I never met but will always remember.
