Hey Guys,

Right now, I am leaning towards Ranger or Elementalist. I like the idea of being able to attack from a distance, which is a characteristic of both professions. Elementalist seems like it would be a lot of fun, but the ranger also seems interesting. What do you guys think could help me choose? I hope this doesn't sound like a silly question, I am seriously torn. Any good resources to help my decision?

Thanks so much in advance!

The best way to choose what your main should be is to do a little bit of sPVP with all the professions (not just the ones you think you want to play).  Even if you don't like PVP ---- you'll go through a discovery phase playing them all at level 80 and I bet you'll find it easier as to what profession will be your main.  Then go back to PVE and focus on that one (or be forever hooked on PVP   8) ) .... This is what I am doing - but I love PVE and WvW too - just don't want to ruin much of the exploration surprises till launch  ::)

I think that is a good way to figure out what a person wants to play, but I'll have to refute that it isn't the "best" way. Subjectively, you may value it more than doing PvE to figure out your class because you devalue the spoiling of content and because it is faster to do sPvP than PvE, but each person has their own way of figuring out their own soul in a game. :) To each their own. I would never do PvP to try and figure out which character I wanted to play for a game before I would do the progressional story building and valuation via doing PvE. In PvE, some people love the whole progressional style of play that it allows and feel that it makes a stronger connection with their character. It's all about the subjective appeal to what a person wants. :) Each way has its benefits. Along with those benefits, each way carries flaws. It is all about the appeal of the person that matters. <3

I agree Bona, I tried PvP first because it sounded smarter but it ended  up giving me this huge disconnect from my character. I had skills/weapons I never earned or read before. I need to do it from the start to get a feel for my character. Also the personal stories are important to get a feel for how you interact with the world. I surprised myself in enjoying the humans the most when I had little interest in them previously.
