GW2 - Explorable Dugeon
« on: March 22, 2012, 02:40:35 PM »
Ok... for people who were worried that Guild Wars 2 would be easy, TotalBiscuit put out a video detailing the explorable mode for the Ascalon Catacombs dungeon (this was taken from the press beta back at the beginning of March). The group consists of 2 press and 3 developers and they are still struggling through the fights. You can clearly see that a lot of teamwork is required to get through the explorable mode.

:o  4 hours seems a bit long! I don't even raid that long lol. I'm still very interested in trying this long chaotic playstyle. It will definitely be new.

Well keep in mind a few things:
The two press players had never played the game before. They were auto leveled to 35 and therefore did not have 35 levels of playtime with their character in understanding the mechanics behind their profession.

So... I'm sure experienced and coordinated players will get through a bit faster. It's just ridiculous when you think about it though. It took them 4 hours to get through path 1 of 3 in just one dungeon...

I'm really excited. Getting together a dungeon team is a lot easier to be more casual than trying to throw together scheduled raids. Not only that, but it seems like the challenges and puzzles will add to the awesomeness!

Watching this video and the sheer utter chaos going on just makes me want to play the game even more.

Edit: My favorite part of this video is that it ultimately proves you cannot tank a mob with a weapon and shield in a dungeon. You will get one shot and die a horrible painful death. You have to dodge attacks and mitigate damage via walls and deflection. Thank god the dungeons aren't run in and AoE spam till everything is dead. Also... ArenaNet really does seem to love using traps that will hit you for 50% of your health.

One of the main things that sucked me into this game was the exploration.  I love exploring in games, it's how I unlocked and discovered so many things in the previous games I've played, often times ending up in places where people shouldn't be... ha ha!  I simply love it though!

This looks more fun than the WoW model.  It will be more on your feet, not just spam x, y, z on this boss, and a, b, c, on this one.

This is really awesome video...thank you for making it available.  It appeals to me in that you have to keep very alert during the entire encounter. Moving, dodging, using LOS.  I play tank class in the "old" model of MMOs in which grab aggro, take mob to x place (usually corner of room), turn the mob around...and everyone sits there spamming.  This new style of play is what i've wanted.  Boss looks at you...roll out.  Boss AoEs...gtfo and move.  And everyone is responsible for dps, heals, support and keeping yourself alive.  This will be so much better.

Agreed as some have said...dedicating 4 hours to a dungeon run is pretty tough.  Pretty much a scheduled raid instead of a 1 hr dungeon run...not sure how I feel about that.
