Human Thief PvE video

This is a great video that specifically demonstrates the unique abilities of the thief.  The second half of the video takes place at a dynamic event and shows some of the cross class abilities.

Guild Wars 2 - Human Thief Gameplay Small | Large

I'll look for some good PvP thief vids too.  I've found a lot of bad ones, but I'm holding out, lol.

Joe is absolutely correct.

All right, if your mom asks, you tell her I read you the riot act

Sweet! I wish they would have showed some sword stuff. I am going to be Sword/dagger, Sword/Pistol
Everything that we see is a shadow cast by that which we do not see

dual pistols is bad ass, but its so easy to switch weapon combos.

I have mixed feelings for the thief. I really like the sound of being extremely mobile range/melee class. I haven't really seen a good video that captures this. Most just stand there and take a beating then complain about the low health of the class.  This one was a bit better but there wasn't really a mob with enough health to really jump around with (in the first half).  Does this bug anyone else? I feel like this should be a peekaboo class lol, attack then disappear or roll away.

I think there's a lot of potential for this class for a skilled player, which we really haven't seen in the videos. I love the idea of leaping in, stabbing and doing some big damage, rolling out and switching to double pistols to pew pew away at the guy, stealthing and starting over. It sounds really fun and busy.

It is, its just played poorly in all the vids.  It's skills are all based around strike and retreat.  I plan to go dual pistols and dual daggers because the dual pistols have a really good skill to pull away and an immobilize and the dual daggers complements with a great closing skill and a stealth retreat. (dont' remember the names of the skills I'm referencing and I'm too lazy to pull up the calculator right now to figure it out)

Awesome, thanks Arc.

I feel like a lot of people that play thief are really, really missing a lot of chances to be awesome.

I'll probably do a few videos once I get in the pre-purchase beta though, and I'm fairly certain I have some ideas on how to play this class :P

Looks like you just spam the 1, 2, and 3 buttons over and over.

@Airic, sure... from levels 1 to 15 you can get away with spamming one or two attacks and not dodging much. That's what your seeing in a lot of the beta press videos of a thief. Low level combat that was designed to be forgiving. Once you get past level 15 if you spam skills (basically not reacting to the situation) and don't dodge you will die a lot.

In all the videos I have seen I have never seen more than 10 buttons on the screen and never even seen the use of all 10 buttons.  This includes high level PvP videos.

1) people don't know how to properly play any of the classes well yet. no one has had enough time to learn the class mechanics

2) yes... there are only 10 skills, 5 weapon, 1 heal, 1 elite, and 3 utility skills. technically you have 10 weapon skills from the weapon switching.

3) the thief is centered a lot around hit and run tactics so a dagger/dagger combo some skills will get you in close while others will get you out of melee and harms way. the player has to be aware of the situation and react accordingly otherwise they will take a ton of damage and die.

4) self heal is your main heal, the elite skill is your 'oh shit' button, and the utility skills are there to help focus you on a certain play style. again... most people haven't played the game long enough to figure out viable utility skill builds to complement the different weapon sets.

And Airic completely misses the point!

Yes, you have 10 skills, at a time.  However, you have something upwards of 70-100 skills to choose from.  Your main hand and off hand change your first 5, and the second 5 are whatever you want.  Also note, you have many different branches to put talent points in to, and many different talent skills to choose from.

Instead of having 5 full hotbars and 50 skills at a time, the game makes you do the preparation beforehand, and you choose and build your character around a core 10 skills, however you want.

Try spamming buttons when they are available come end-game PvP, you'll get trounced, hardcore.

And you know this how?  You've played it?  I thought people haven't played it enough to know what is good at end game PvP....which is it?  I prepare my bars in every MMO I've played before hand too.  Every skill is placed on my action bars where I want it and on the button I want to press to use it.  I know GW2 Main Hand and Off Hand change your first 5.  That doesn't change the fact that you will be spamming those buttons all fight.  I've seen it in every video.  While sometimes the animations look pretty cool.  All the rolling around and button mashing looks really boring.

Of course it looks really boring to you, you play Star Wars, and it's a hard and fast rule on this forum that since you play Star Wars, you have to interject about how stupid Guild Wars looks and how it can't possibly be good. And someone that loves Guild Wars will soon follow behind me and interject about how you play Star Wars, and that game now sucks, they used to play it, but they got tired of it, and on and on and on it goes. Why does every thread on this board have to turn into a bash/bitch-fest? Makes ZERO sense.

Play the game you want to play, and let others enjoy the game they want to enjoy.

That goes for EVERYBODY.

If you don't enjoy it, don't play it, but why bring other people down about doing what they enjoy, no matter which side of the aisle you're on.
