@Airic, you're right. No one really knows how PvP will play out once people become competent in their class and it's mechanic right now. We won't see it until sometime after the game launches.

But... going off the skills I've seen of how the Thief (and other professions) play if you stick with only one weapon set and want to spam skills 1&2 you will die and get owned by not only enemies but other players as well. Movement is key and so is knowing when to use a certain skill. Take the Thief wielding a Dagger/Pistol for example. The two skills from your dagger are melee while the two from the pistol are ranged. Skill 3 is a shadow step to get out of harms way. You have to be aware of the situation and use it properly to avoid damage. Randomly spamming skills will not work with any profession and will end up getting you killed.

Of course it looks really boring to you, you play Star Wars, and it's a hard and fast rule on this forum that since you play Star Wars, you have to interject about how stupid Guild Wars looks and how it can't possibly be good.

You're right.  None of these came from our forums.   :torynn:

Well I hope GW2 comes out this year then. That would be good news for Arena.net to release before TOR.

The way SWTOR is looking, I think I'll be going the GW2 route as well.  I'm def gonna be playing a tank though...  Would prefer a warrior, but I'm not sure if they can.  If not, I'll go Guardian.  Never played the first one, but this one looks amazing.

So, I was in the BETA and I must say that after I had gotten so far (lvl 40 or so), I actually fell out of love with the game.  It was super buggy (and I'm hearing still a lot of bugs), and I just think that GW2 might be better (seeing as no subscription price).  What do you all think of the game in its current stage?  Is ToR worth playing right now?

@Makani, don't worry about bad mouthing Guild Wars 2. Constructive feedback has never hurt a game. As to whether it will live up to the hype? We shall see but ArenaNet does have something going for it over many other developers. They don't talk about features unless they are 100% sure they can fit it in and that it's working as intended and fun and enjoyable for all involved. They also openly communicate with the community on changes to any aspect of the game (many of the developers have accounts on the Guild Wars 2 Guru forum and will come on when they talk about a new feature to help clear up any confusion).

Will peoples expectations not live up to the game itself? Obviously, it happens every MMO no matter how hard developers try to keep player expectation down. But so far every time GW2 has been seen at a game convention it's received praise from everyone on the innovative combat (dodging, changing your characters role to fit the combat situation) and the event system of keeping the world dynamic and different each time you come back to a zone.

I'm personally looking forward to trying the game out since Guild Wars 1 is one of my favorite games and one I keep coming back to time and time again.

As for Guild Wars 2... that game is going to be very different from how SWTOR plays. Have to keep in mind that ArenaNet has decided to throw out almost the entire rulebook on how to make an MMO (following the model set down by Everquest, World of Warcraft, and others - tank/healer/dps (holy trinity), static world (quests that don't change your surroundings). GW2 made it so that every class can self-heal, no tanks, and the dynamic event system that can change a zone based on a player's action or inaction.

After looking at the direction where pvp is going and how there won't be any real progression for pvp, there might be a large exodus when GW2 comes out.

GW2 is going to destroy SWTOR.  Just because of it's end-game PvP.  The Realm vs Realm vs Realm system looks AMAZING, and it's so incredibly complex that SWTOR will simply never get there if they hadn't planned for it in the first place.

Which sucks, because SWTOR is pretty awesome.  Until 50.

I think the fact that TG has about 20 members logging in at prime time these days when over 70 were logged in regularly only two months ago goes a long ways towards proving that you are correct in your prediction.    This leaves aside that fact that populations in TOR have dropped so dramatically that very few guilds will have 8 people for a full team anyways.  See you in Guild Wars 2!

You've been here two weeks.  Please don't tell me how the forums are...

Us TORtards are tired of seeing the negatives posts about SWTOR, which is why Braegha had to post this.

@Airic,

You must not have read my post on either board, even tho you quoted it, since I posted in BOTH threads how it's the same in both the SWTOR and GW2 subcategory. The board is a WHOLE entity, this is a sub category of the entire board.

I'm just tired of reading nothing but Star Wars people complaining about how Guild Wars 2 is going to suck, and just as tired of reading how much people who no longer play Star Wars are bashing it.

Negativity wears down people, and causes friction, no matter where it's coming from, no matter who started it.

Seriously, it's like the internet is the worst part of elementary school all over again.

The "Well he picked on me so I have to pick on him!" or "I don't like that so it has to be terrible!" mentality is ridiculous. Why can't BOTH SIDES just let the other side enjoy the game they choose to play, without having to bash it?

I'll put this here, hoping that maybe this time my post will be a little easier to understand:

GUILD WARS PEOPLE, PLEASE STOP BASHING STAR WARS.
STAR WARS PEOPLE, PLEASE STOP BASHING GUILD WARS.

Yes I play SWTOR, among many other games.  My opinions of Guild Wars 2 are from what I have watched and read about the game.  They have nothing to do with my time in SWTOR.   I spent 3 hours yesterday watching Guild Wars 2 videos on my second monitor while doing my daily quests in SWTOR.  I wasn't impressed.

I'm not "Bashing" Guild Wars.  I am stating what I have observed in the videos I have watched and stating my opinion on them.  It looks like button mashing to me and boring.  I will try the game most likely, as I try every game TG does.

I'm just trying to bring some people off cloud 9.  I just don't want to see them fall off that if this game doesn't live up to their expectations. I've seen so many people put this game on a pedestal without ever getting a hand on it.  Hopefully the game lives up to their expectations, but with the way some people talk about this game, it might cure cancer if it does meet their expectations.

These areas of our forums are publicly viewable and if you guys keep behaving like children I'm going to start removing posts and/or deleting topics.

I know Airic isn't 12 years old, and I'll assume the rest of you aren't either, so cut this shit out please.

Anyone can spend their money on whatever the hell they want and nobody here should knock them for their OPINIONS or DECISIONS.

If you don't like someone's opinion/comments, then please simply ignore them unless they are personally attacking you, at which point you should report it.

Please stop making our community look like a high school lunch table ok guys?  (this is aimed at everyone)  We don't need to be turning any potential applicants away with a gross misrepresentation of what our community is like.

Airic... you bash things even when you don't realize it.

Why do you care if people are on cloud 9?  Leave them alone dude...  you almost pissed yourself pre-SWTOR launch on a daily basis.

I must have missed something since I stay out of the SWTOR section. I haven't really felt this at all Tripley, about people bashing other games vs theirs. I've mostly seen opinions here and there on what they didn't enjoy about the other game, and that they may come back in 3-6 months after it's polished up or whatever.  I haven't seen any SWTOR peeps on here saying "Lol, Theif!? More like Bounty Hunter wannabe LOLz".

I agree with you Tripley, but I just haven't seen it all over the place like you have. Are there truly crazed people on here being Negative Nancys, Debbie Downers, Trolls, and the like? I'm just a bit confused.

When people get tired of playing games, they turn to playing the forums instead.  :(

Cause I was playing SWTOR on a daily basis Pre-SWTOR :P

< - Beta Tester

However, I also told people to lower their expectations a little for the game as well.  It was being released 3 months too early, but at the same time still a very fun and viable MMO from launch.

So maybe I should get working my Skyrim character before I turn into a troll?

This Thief PVE video sure was controversial!

Just watch Airic buy GW2 on launch day.  :)

Honestly though, from what I've seen in the videos, there's not much reason to NOT get this game.  It seems like a very slick game and with there being no sub I see no reason why people would be opposed to it.  I'll be picking up a copy for sure as I've been looking for a new fix in this genre.

@Airic, Barnaby, Tripley, Ambrosia... everyone here is entitled to their own opinion of the game and how it will ultimately turn out in the end.

Yes... it is true that I have not yet played Guild Wars 2 but I'm basing my viewpoint on impressions from people who have played the game. TotalBiscuit, LewisB from TapRepeatedly, and MikeB from Gamebreak.tv (three people off the top of my head) have all answered the community question over whether or not Guild Wars 2 would fall into the button mashing trap and all of them answered no due to the fact that while yes... you are essentially spamming your 1-5 keys it does not feel like button mashing since you are having to constantly move and dodge out of the way of attacks.

If Guild Wars 2 can ultimately get away from combat being where you stand in one spot and just spam attacks till the mob is dead then I'll be happy. From the videos I've seen so far they have achieved this, however... I will hold final judgement on how it works till I get a chance to play myself.

I /agree with Nightsong, there's a lot to be said about it being subscription free.  I'll probably pay more in cash shop items anyhow than I would with a subscription, that's sorta how it works.

Tons of people are EXTREMELY excited for Guild Wars 2.  For good reason, everything I've seen of it so far looks pretty dang good.

Where as, tons of people have already played tons of SWTOR, and a lot of them are...Unhappy.  Some are still happy, and good for you!  Enjoy it!  Thief looks freaking awesome, can't wait to play it.
