I have NO idea what I'm talking about, but if I play, Adomnae will be a Mesmer, or a Necromancer if Mesmers are annoyingly unsoloable.

Every class can solo equally well so no need to worry about that. Believe me, if ArenaNet found a profession wasn't living up to the standard of being on equal footing with the other professions they would go and tweak the weak profession (actually this is the reason it took so long to see the Mesmer... it was really weak originally in PvP).

I may be interested. I played a LITTLE (I mean like, un peu) bit of GW1 and I may check this out. I can't speak for my race or profession yet though.

I'm defiantly more interested in the game after talking to Nightsong last night. I most likely will get it, when ever it is released, but I'm not sure which race/class combination I will choose yet.

Yea... it helps convincing people to play Guild Wars 2 if you know way more about the game than you should without ever having played it.

As for the release date this is all I'll say: Mike O'Brien confirmed that beta test weekends will run through March and April. Prior to that ArenaNet stated that the feedback received from those beta test weekends would determine when the actual release was. So if all goes well in March and April, early summer, otherwise late summer for the release (yes, yes... I know MMO's don't release in the summer but ArenaNet is already throwing out the conventional rules for MMO's so they might as well with the release date).

And if you have any questions about which profession to play just ask. I can link the known skills from different weapons for each profession as well as some videos so you can get a sense of how they play.

Oh, yeah, Necros.  Add that to the list of classes I'm considering.  At least I've narrowed down race.  I'll have a Norn and a Charr.  Both will be mains, so it will take me forever to get to cap, lol.

Does anyone know what kind of server options there will be?  Will there be any servers with open world PvP?  So far everything I've read about PvP sounds instanced.
Joe is absolutely correct.

There is another post where Nightsong linked a dev's statement that it supports 2000 people on the one giant map.

Here ya go... some known details on WvWvW PvP:

World PvP takes place in the Mists, a proto-reality between worlds and realms such as Tyria. It will be accessible to characters almost immediately from character creation. However, players joining World PvP enter with their current equipment and skills and their level is increased to level 80 automatically through sidekicking.

In terms of numbers, there is no defined limit to the number of players accessing World PvP for a world at the same time. As such, it has been suggested that there could be several hundred players on each side of a World PvP battle. Currently, only characters that have recently changed worlds are restricted from World vs World combat for a limited time; players may otherwise leave or join the battle as desired.

There will be one battlefield upon launch which will be broken up into four sub-maps: an initially neutral central zone, and a home map for each of the three worlds participating. Each map is filled with resources and objectives which can be captured by a world, including castles, fortresses, mercenary camps, mines, lumber mills and villages. These sites, with the management of their capture and defense, allow teams of all different sizes to find a way to participate. For example, larger groups or guilds may take or hold keeps, while smaller groups or even individuals might assist by disrupting supply caravans, weakening defenses, or capturing other objectives that will stop reinforcements. Maps will also be populated with defensively-oriented NPCs to set the pace of gameplay, but their presence is to allow defending players a chance to join in the defense as opposed to being a credible or reliable threat. WvW will not only feature PvP, but also PvE content and dynamic events.

When a new match begins, players can join at any time to start from their home map and capture locations there. Resources gained from mines and lumber mills are used to rebuild walls, create siege engines, and generally defend the world's fortress. Once they move to the central map, players joining will start at their world's portal keep. From there they may continue to capture objectives while dealing with players from other worlds seeking to invade opposing home maps via the central map zone. Thus, play will travel between the central map and home maps as worlds gain and lose footholds such as keeps and strategic points that influence bonuses for their home world. At the end of the two weeks, the match concludes, the rank of the world is updated, and a new match begins.

Yes it is. Especially when you consider that the graphics engine being used for Guild Wars 2 is a re-modified / re-coded version of the same graphics engine used on Guild Wars 1 which came out in 2005.

Exact quote about the graphics here:
Quote
Guild Wars 2 uses a heavily modified version of the proprietary game engine developed for Guild Wars by ArenaNet. The modifications to the engine include real-time 3D environments, enhanced graphics and animations and the use of the Havok physics system. The developers say the engine now does justice to the game's critically acclaimed concept art, and that concept art will be integrated into the way the story is told to the player.

Again... ArenaNet is proving that you don't need top of the line graphics to make a visually appealing game.

This sounds a lot like the system of PotBS, only it was the whole game world and a match was 3 months.  It was awesome.

ArenaNet you really are going to cause a ton of people to turn into alt-o-holics.

I'm still going with a Mesmer and a Warrior but I'm unsure of which races I want them to be.

Gah! Waiting another month for the beta testing to start is going to be annoying.

Yeah this will definitely get some play time from me

I am the guiding light of truth and I am the retribution of murdered allies and family members. I am the torch of honor and beacon of respect. I am the fiery might of valor and relentless defiance. I am the culmination of a thousand fears of villainy against my beliefs and those of my family. I am the conqueror of darkness and the defender of the weak. I am the pursuer of freedom and I am the stalwart last stand of an ideal.

Well, while my love for Swtor is still strong I will be buying this for sure. Loved the pvp matches in GW1. As for class, most likely Mes or thief. With Mesmer being top canidate as it was what my first toon in GW1 was.
