Don't be so hard on him guys, lol.   :P

The Mystic Forge Crafter... in my opinion probably has to do something with the four crafting disciplines that use a forge (Armorsmith, Weaponsmith, Artificer, Jeweler).
That could be, but why does the achievement text talk about 'mad science'.  I don't see how that would match up with the forging that we have in the game.  Again, I don't think they're adding another profession and I don't think the Mystic Forge is a major change as you put it.  I think it has to be something that it's in the game, and if you believe the patch notes it has a GUI.

It could very well be the actual discovery portion of the crafting window and you get the achievement after enough discoveries.  That would make sense with some of the patch notes on it.

EDIT:  It appears the Mystic Forge is definitely an actual thing in the game.. *at about 2:50*

Somebody on Reddit speculated it's used to make the very high end super-rare recipes that haven't been revealed to the public yet.

It's possible. Mad scientist could just be a lore reference to the Asura. Some achievements and their text is associated with a major race.

As for the Mystic Forge, again possibly something in the game that is related to crafting. Thing you have to keep in mind is that all gear at level 80 is equal in power. So... the forge itself might exist (in addition to the normal crafting stations or as part of one) as the means for a crafter to create the super rare armor skins at max level.

I apologize to you Nightsong. I'm having a rough day, and I snapped at you. It's not your fault, I'm sorry.
Would've pm'd it, but I called you out in public, so I should also apologize to you in public.

Mmm, yea I was wondering what the glowy flowy thing in the middle of the Lion's Arch crafting area was.  I interacted with it and it just seemed "unimplemented."

<speculation>  If that's the mystic forge, and if it has less tiers of achivement, then it would not suprise me if it was some kind of equipment modification system that's universal and not directly tied to a profession and not a profession all it's own.  </speculation>

I like Thranx's idea there...it makes a lot of sense.  ANet likes the theme of having generic items/abilities to keep things balanced with the ability to make yourself unique through chooseing from a large pool of things others have access to.  Like every warrior with a sword and shield has the same 5 attacks but they can choose how to augment those attacks with the trait system.  Would make sense that, since all armor at the same level is the same equivilant power, they would add a system to allow people to make things 'unique' to your play style.  It may not even be tied to crafting but rather a way that everyone can mod their items.  It may also have something to do with transmuting armor stats to other armor models.

*nod* Yeeeah.  I was thinking something along those lines as well.  Like rune crafting or something.

Seeing how this was posted on Reddit, and the developers read Reddit.  They've actually done shout outs to the Reddit community on their Twitter.  I believe this is legit.

Seems that high level dungeons were being tested internally.

More rumors (take in with grain of salt):

The "Mystic Forge" (found inside Lion's Arch) is used to make some of the most rarest-high-level items. Many of it's recipes are a total mystery.

The game is pretty close to finishing, just some high level zones needing work.

Asura zones/quests are coming along pretty fast. Sylvari zones lag you like a mother----- (framerate issues)

So a list of 'big stuff' needing some work to make it readyish for release:

  • Sylvari zones optimization
  • Structured PvP being finished (still in development)
  • Content (lot of quest logs etc missing and tagged with weird numbering like QEB82E and high level zones seem to miss some hearts and such.)

There's only 4 structured PvP maps in atm, the two you guys are familiar with and two more. The other two are called "Memories of the past", which is basically a conquest map mixed with some oldskool GvG elements mixed into it like killing guildlord wins you the game and "something something Capricorn", which is a coastal map with a huge pirate ship, water and beaches.

Obviously you can't just walk up to the guildlord and kill it easily. It takes time to get to him even, there's a castle gate and bodyguards and it's fairly close to the enemy teams spawn.

Pirate map
  • narrow bayish coast with capture points on each side
  • Pirate ship in the middle of the two capture points
  • Capture point under the pirate ship, so in the water.
  • Pirate ship has cannons.
  • Caribbeanish setting.

Memories of the past
  • 3 capture points, two near the spawn points and one in the middle.
  • Each team has a fort, with a guild lord in it.
  • Killing guild lord win you the game, but it´s not easy getting to him. He´s protected by fortification and bodyguards.
  • Grassish setting.

- Nice Airic, glad to see some concrete details on the two un-named Structured PvP Matches. We've known for the longest time the other four which are: Battle of Khylo, Forest of Niflhel, The Siege, and The Brand. Also from ArenaNet we know that Structured PvP was slightly broken so it's nice to see that we should be seeing the full breadth of it in an upcoming Beta Weekend Event.

- The Pirate Map... I'm curious if ArenaNet followed through on what they were testing... They said they were internally testing a fully underwater PvP map that involved pirates and pirate ships. I'm curious if this is the map and that they managed to keep it all underwater.

- Memories of the Past. THANK YOU ARENANET! At least they are bringing back something that is going to be a major nostalgia factor for Guild Wars 1 players who want to play Structured PvP.

- Looks like the Commerce tab got an overhaul to bring it in line with the rest of the UI. Very happy to see the introduction of more cosmetic items, the store (cosmetic items) felt like it was lacking quite a bit compared to Guild Wars 1.

- Citadel of Flame (or Flame Citadel, not sure what it's actual name is) is one of three level 80 dungeons. Does kind of give a hint where they are at with testing the dungeons and which they are done with (most likely the ones from level 30-70 which all revolve around Destiny's Edge).

- Asura... Felicia Day (the voice actor of Zojja, the Asuran hero of Destiny's Edge), tweeted back in April that she was back in the ArenaNet studios to redo some voicework. So... the events/personal story itself might be done, but the voicework is probably still being worked on. Also... sad to see that the Sylvari area is lagging that bad and hasn't been optimized, I really would love to play them sometime soon.

(Content (lot of quest logs etc missing and tagged with weird numbering like QEB82E and high level zones seem to miss some hearts and such.))
- Only thing I can think of quest log wise is the personal story... Hearts... I'm not worried about, they are designed and in game to help guide players through the zone of where dynamic events start and cascade out from.

@Soleil, the Box O Fun, I'd crack up if that is it's final icon at launch. Would be pretty funny.

Edit: Airic, I can tell you with 99% certainty that most of that information is accurate about the dungeons and Structured PvP. As for the testing and how far along, that's anyone's guess unless they are part of the closed internal beta.

99% certainty...not 100% :P

If this was bogus I think a GW2 Dev would have posted in the thread, it's been on the front page of the subreddit for 2 days now.

All this stuff is really interesting.  So much goes on behind the scenes for the production of a game and this is just a tidbit of the details.

Well that 1% not certain really comes about because we have next to no details on the underwater PvP map other than that there will be one. Also... they don't mention Siege and Brand, the other two maps, so there again not sure what's going on with them (if they are still in or if they have been taken out).

But overall, it's nice to see behind the scenes with ArenaNet and how the game is coming along.
