So many answers:

- This is the best build
- Here is the best way to level
- Come here for all your crafting information

All these answers have serious problems.  The game isn't out yet, the answers are still changing, and even if everything remained the same, the answers will still keep changing as people get more familiar with the game.

Also, if we had all the answers, the game is reduced to doing A, then B, then C etc.  One big shopping list.

I prefer questions:

- What is your favorite jumping puzzle?  Have you tried this one?
- Made any good discoveries lately?
- Got any new moves in PvP?
- What's been your favorite heart quest, non-heart event?
- Are you having fun?

It's very hard with all the hype, NOT to look at the game too much..  But I would like to discover it not play something I've already seen, not look at views that I have already seen on you tube.  When I'm crafting I would like to really discover crafting recipes, NOT just look up a recipe on the net.  When I get new abilities I would like to experiment with them, find new moves, and new ways to combine abilities, then try them out in PvP, not look up the latest build and copy what they do.

I know the way I play can sometimes lead to frustration.  And I'll admit I'll occasionally ask or look up an answer.  Even though I explored a city I may forget where a certain npc is and ask others if they remember (I wish I could add notes to the map!).  And after I've tried a few of my moves, I'll occasionally look at others, what moves they use, and see if using them will improve my play.

I understand when I play with others, I can't quite be myself.  I have to limit my exploration a bit, so I can remain with the group and achieve whatever goal we have planned, and that's ok.  (I tend to over compensate, so afraid I'll hold things up, I instead hurry things along).  Group play is fun for lots of reasons.  I'll balance it out with solo play where I have the time to do all the exploring I would like to do.

So if you are grouping with me, you may need a bit of patience.  I will try to keep up with the group and not delay everyone.  But occasionally if you see me wander off, I probably just found an answer to one of my many questions, or better yet, new questions to ask!

Hey guys, have you seen this?  What is going on?

The problem is that is how most of the MMO community is nowadays. Relegating the entire game down to a shopping list and blindly going from Point A to Point B ad nauseam and then complaining that there is no more content left to do.

My own household is a michrocasm of this situation. I'm very much into looking into every aspect of the game before I play it. I don't care about spoilers. Ambrosia on the other hand didn't really want to get into spoilers and wanted this game to have the nostalgia effect that WoW had when we first logged in and didn't know what DPS meant.

Some people just want to have a good basis of knowledge to build off of before entering the game. I.e "Well in BW3 this skill worked like this but now it's a bit different" is a bit easier than "I wonder what this skill does". However some people like the idea of figuring things out fresh on day 1. I happen to be the former.

In so far as grouping with others goes I've learned my lesson from Diablo 3 that I want to do my own thing with my personal story. I want to get into the game, it's story, and everything else that is going on. My socialization will consist of guild chat and mumble. That isn't to say that if someone needs help I'll leave them high and dry. I just know that there are those who don't play the same way as I do so I'm just going to do my thing.

Woode that doesn't describe everybody. I haven't looked into builds at all and have played with them once or twice just to get a feel for what the class can do later on (to figure out my main).  I do not care about the best way to level, and I will never look at a crafting recipe video (I plan on doing cooking, how fun is that?)

I hate all the jumping puzzles videos on youtube- Arenanet put in all these fun puzzles for a challenge and people already are reading the solutions??? It's like doing a crossword search with all the answers circled.  I believe for the most part people are just really excited for the game and are talking about whatever excites them the most. I don't mind at all as long as they add *spoiler* tags or obvious titles.

In groups I tend to get swept up in the moment too, rushing more than adventuring. I hope people don't get offended when I decide to quest alone or do personal stories alone, because I know I will be so I don't get that "I'm holding you back" feeling, and also so I don't get the urge to rush/level/push etc. to keep up.

The problem with GW2 is you don't need to get to level 80 right away to play the game.  You can just play it.

I'm with ya, Woode. I'm a min maxer and love playing with builds, but to be honest I can't wait to get back into PVE with a just let the adventure happen. I'm hoping that by the game being so divided I can preserve a sense of awe for the pve adventuring with my wife. No focus, no plan, no strat, just us seeing where the day takes us.

I think it's part of the way the world is now because of the Internet.  I.E. 24-hour news coverage.  It's kind of hard to hold back much when people have exposure and easy accessibility to information.

I admit I'm guilty of it myself, I watch a lot of videos and read a ton of info daily.  I made the mistake in SWTOR of rushing through because I was afraid I would get left behind and in the end I regret that as it really burnt me out on the game.

My hope is with GW2 to stop and smell the roses a bit, there is indeed no need to rush to 80.  I'll just play and try to discover things I come across.  Atlesst that's the plan :P

I am a fly by the seat of my pants kind of guy ( I know surprising right?). I know what races and classes I will play, but beyond that is for the game to decide. The same thing went with SWTOR, Rift, Aeion, Champions, Warhammer, and the other multitudes of games I have plagued. My build may not be the best for damage tanking, heals or whatever, but I can pretty much guarantee it is the one I enjoy the most and to me that is all that matters.  8)

Duck, you sir are an inspiration.

I feel this is the perfect time to launch my new group of slackers & misfits. I haven't really gotten around to creating a name for the group, but I do want to stress that there will be no sort of organization, no sort of structure & we will stress the importance of individualism. We might do some pvp, we might do some pve, we might stand around the city and play hacky sack, but probably just end up talking about it for a while before we go ride bikes. j/k

I am all for the open playstyle. The most fun I have ever had was in my first few months of playing wow and just wondering around. I would spend hours in the most random places and didn't consider any of it wasted time.

Yeah I want to learn as I go. it's not fun if you have 'everything figured out' right off the bat! I miss when games would come out and we were all learning and starting out together. I'm trying to not get caught up in it all. I want to enjoy and have fun when it comes out.

Woode...I'm with your approach, but have to say it will be the first time I've taken this approach.  Every MMO I've played I've been in some portion of the beta, and heavily engrossed myself in learning about the game before launch, not this time.  I've yet play the game at all, not even a stress test.  This will be a brand new experience for me, but one that I think will be refreshing.  Additionally, my girlfriend as decided to play GW2, and with the exception of two free weeks of Rift this will be her first MMO.

I did give in a bit.  I finally took part in the last BWE and have done a few stress tests.  In a way I'm glad I did.  This game's approach is different enough that it takes a bit to get used to.  You are doing some event and you get word that another event is going on.  My immediate reaction was that I was missing out on something.  And in a sense you are.  Instead of quests waiting to be triggered by you talking to some NPC, things are going on all the time.

As a old MMO player, it made me a bit uncomfortable at first.

Also, you are used to being led from quest to quest, but if you just go from heart to heart, doing those events, you will miss out on about half the happenings in an area.  Many people were saying they weren't getting enough experience to move on, not realizing that they were missing half the content, as there was no quest to lead them to that content.

You just need a bit of patience.  Spend time in the world, looking around, and you will find much more than what is on the map.

I think the little time I spent with the game will just allow me to avoid some of the pitfalls old MMO habits get people into.  I avoided my first characters home city (going to play human) so there will be plenty for me to experience for the first time  :)

I just wanna figure out the best way to lay out my keybinds with this new Naga!!!

Hang the sense of cookie cutter builds, hang the sense of memorizing recipes and leveling optimization.  All I'm trying to nail down is how the hell I'm going to fit left/right strafe into my mapping with all the skills/weapon swaps/pet commands bound to my QWERT, 12435, and (now) 1-12 on my beautiful new mouse.

Not like I can test it with any other game, because nothing else on the market has the incredible combat setup that GW2 does. Guess that's all the more reason to take it slow, PvE until I feel comfy with my skills/kiting, then hop into PvP.

ABOYNE (vb.) To beat an expert at a game of skill by playing so appallingly bad that none of his clever tactics or strategies are of any use to him.

Definately going to be the relax and enjoy type of player myself. I love exploring and seeing new and awesome sights all over the world. Arenanet has even rewarded this playstyle, for when you get that 100% complete in each area map you get a reward like transmutations stones etc.
I like being totally knowledgable about each map area im in long before i am leaving it for the next, and exploring each cranny and nook will yeild a ton of crafting mats as well. Cant wait to find those jumping puzzles, I only found and did 1 during all the bwe's so I know they are all awesome.
I am just so looking forward to playing the game in a relaxed and enjoyable style, not worrying about needing that next peice of epic loot; or wondering over and over how to squeeze that last bit of dps out of my biuld, or having to spend hours and days in some damn dungeon over and over to get the "required" gear to move onto the next damn dungeon. Not waiting for hours to get a healer or a tank to run the aforementioned is going to be so awesome as well.

And the best thing with all of this is I get to do it alongside the most Epic people it has ever been my pleasure to be a part of  The Guardians!
