Battlefield 3 is a no go afterall

Well the Battlefield 3 beta keeps crashing my video drivers; and when I research a solution is says to update drivers; but I have most recent drivers.  So I re-boot and try again.  That doesn't work.  So I research some more; only to find that my video cards are not listed anywhere as compatable with BF. 

I run 2 Nvidia 8800 GT cards in SLI; and apparently they do not agree with BF3.  I get like 5 minutes of game time before my graphics drivers crash and my screen goes blank.  my mother board will not allow an upgrade; and a new PC will not be in the cards until Febuary at the absolute earliest for me.  So, I have cancelled my BF3 pre-order.  No sence to getting a game that will be un-playble.

Too bad; as I was looking forward to having something to play with TG as all wait for TOR.

Oh well, perhaps now I finish my Fallout 3 play through :P

Hopefully they'll fix it up before release and you'll be able to play. Give them some feedback, thats what beta is for after all.

I'm assuming you're running the nVidia beta drivers?  They were running solid for me, despite the fact I've got an intermittant fan in my GPU :-/  If you didn't try those, give it a whirl again while it's still free :)

Try turning off SLI?  It's a beta and SLI is one of the last things they optimize for.  Plus using beta drivers doesn't help.

The BF 3 beta has given me errors stating that I need to use driver 258.27 or newer.  Both of those options are beta drivers.

I have been hesitant to turn off SLI because the 8800 GT as a solo card is not listed as meeting the min requirements.

Well Mad...there's lies the issue.  You are using a card that does not meet the system requirements and having two of them does not make up for the fact.  Minimum requirements for Graphics aren't just for the speed and memory of the card, there are a lot of internal stuff with the firmware that isn't supported.

However I know for certain that SLI will be supported for the Gold Build.  I'd say try turning off SLI and see how it goes.

yup; I jumped in before I looked at specs; I haven't had to worry at all IF my pc could handle a game in so long that I still assumed that I could play it.  then i have had the issues mentioned above and I am pretty sure it is due to my hardware not being good enough.  Oh, well;  I have other games to keep me busy until TOR releases.

Well, we could always use some more warm bodies playing LOTRO if you are looking for a game to play while you wait for TOR.  We seem to have a somewhat good turnout on the weekends and we are looking to build it up.

yea, I have the 8800 GT but its my damn XP I don't think it will like...arggg guess its time to upgrade!
