I guess pre-orders favoring PS4 made them see the light.

I don't see any EQ game having much PVP in it. That just isn't what EQ is about.
Moving slowly while casting is odd. I know vanguard did it but most mmo games don't. I'm not saying its a bad idea, it just doesn't feel right 3

Yes, the extreme spawn camping is a thing of the past I'm sure. I agree that having to wait a day is unreasonable today, compared to 10 years ago when that was just "the way it is". However it did really feel like an accomplishment to get the item after dedicating so much time for it. I don't get that feeling in today's MMO.
This is why I said to have it like how EQ1 is today, where there is more of a focus on quests/tasks, some raiding, and the rest of it is breaking into and holding a camp to pull to. Most of which do not require a super long camp in 1 spot like the days of old. 4
Other Games and Interests / Re: EQ Next« on: June 19, 2013, 05:42:13 PM »I never played EQ1 I heard it was a lot like Vanguard, which I really liked. I played EQ2 with Aythr for a couple months, and besides being able to wear a tinfioil hat and ride a cow on fire I found the questing very boring, but that was the wow days of walls of text. If they make it a sandbox and the leveling, crafting and pvp is fun I may give it a shot. I didn't play much EQ2, but EQ1 was and is similar to Vanguard, minus the whole moving while casting thing. EQ1 had a steep learning curve and has greatly toned down over the years as far as being punishing. You no longer have corpse runs to get gear back and since they introduced Mercenaries experience loss from death isn't an issue. I truely truely hope they make EQN an updated EQ1 as it exists today. Give it more customizable UI, but still limit the spells to 8 (more w/ AA). I think one of the biggest mistakes WoW has is that you need 20+ buttons to effectively play a class. It actually adds to the challenge to swap spells mid fight, or have multiple loadouts depending on your role/group makeup. I also like how not all classes can solo equally. There are actual defined roles in EQ. And no I don't want to argue that WoW has defined roles, because talent tree swapping makes it so any class can be a good soloer. In EQ1, a warrior properly equiped with tons of AAs was the best tank in the game, but couldn't solo worth crap at high level. But a necromancer could solo non stop for hours without even having to stop. Usually more than 1 class has the basics, like 4 can slow, but those 4 classes are very different in all other regards. And the AA tree is more interesting to build a character and adds a lot of longevity to a class beyond the "must raid until get best in slot" idea that WoW has. In fact, raiding isn't the focus of EQ1, and PVP is almost non-existent on all servers but 1. It is a social game. The journey to max level/AA is long. The difficulty is there. Man how I miss having a "puller". Instead of just slowly progressing through an instanced zone, you had "camps". You want an item, you get a group together to go camp something. The mob doesn't spawn for 4 hrs, guess you know why its called a "camp". It finally spawns but doesn't drop what you want, guess you better get your smores out because you're going to be here a while. No instant gratification. Is this what most people want these days? No, I would guess not. But it made for an amazing experience when it all came together, which is why it has survived all these years through 18 expansions, and still exists as the largest (in terms of in-game area to explore) game of its type. 5
Gadgets, Gizmos, and Computers / Re: New Comp Help - what to get?« on: June 19, 2013, 12:09:20 PM »
First, unless you think you are going to take your gaming rig with you a lot (LANs, friends house, etc.), stay away from a laptop.
Second, if you have that much money to spend, you may as well get an intel core i7 3930k, 16 gb of ram, an Nvidia GTX 780 graphics card, and a mobo that supports SLI so you can get a 2nd video card later if you want. You can look at a items similar to this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.1292632 BUT forget the 2 x gtx 660's and case, mobo, power supply can be swapped out for something better/different. I personally have a 256 GB samsung 840 pro SSD and they are awesome. This bundle has a 512 which may be overkill unless you play tons of different games. Also, forget FRAPS. Nvidia has a new feature coming out called shadow play that works with the 600 and 700 series cards which will basically make FRAPS worthless (and its free too if you have an nvidia card). 6

Well you can try it without it, and without plugging in the HDD. It may still work but run slower.

Well, the other 2 items I mentioned should fix the issue.

Gadgets, Gizmos, and Computers / Re: New SSD, New Windows Install... fails to boot without Win7 disc« on: June 18, 2013, 05:56:22 PM »Last night i reformatted my HD(to get rid of an old partition), installed my new SSD and installed Windows 7 on it. Works fine, so long as the Windows 7 disc is in the drive. If I startup without the disc it fails to boot off the HD, if the disc is in it boots from the HD just fine. 2 things. Unplug the HDD while installing windows on the SSD, this will ensure no issues. Second, make sure your bios is set to AHCI as others have said before installing windows. After windows is all done installing, then plug in the HDD and everything should be okay. Also, if your motherboard is more than a year or 2 old, update the firmware. 9

Majority of the games on that list, including ESO, WS, and EQNext had next to no showing at E3. Biggest news of those three games was that ESO was delayed to Spring 2014 due to console port. Also, we still do not know anything about EQNext. Yes, but it is SOE, they typically make good mmo's. Just none as popular as WoW. They still get my vote. 10

Other Games and Interests / Re: EQ Next« on: June 17, 2013, 06:44:53 PM »So, at what point do we need to start talking about putting Civenge in charge of our growing EQN division? If there were a squad worth of people that wanted to play, then maybe. But a division leader I am not. I just don't have the time at this point in my life. Though I think I am one of the most excited people for this game

If you like digital TCG's, this looks like it could be fun. I am thinking of buying it in the near future when I get some spare $$$. Has anyone picked it up yet? 13

Well, given that it is F2P, EVERYONE should give it a shot. And if you don't, you smell like dirty socks.
And if you do, well you'll also smell like dirty socks (due to lack of shower). 15

All games should do what BF3 did (at least once). Only use in-game footage to make trailers. No more CGI that just is there to generate hype and not actually show you what the game looks like.
Make it so. |
