Guild wars 2 Guides

This guy is a great guide maker, and his crafting guide for all crafts (except cooking, hes updating that one) are broken down in steps for speed leveling to 400, has shopping lists and steps laid out.

if you see any errors, you can post them on his thread on GW2 forums.

PVP Discussion / Victory Announcements
« on: September 07, 2012, 04:50:49 PM »
with all this new brain storming going on, and in light of the scare Snissel gave me.../bonk

I wanted to toss out an idea that might help with increasing some TG participation in wvw from our members that PVE and not listening in on mumble WvW chat, that might get a spark of interest if given the proper motivation.

for our large Victories in Wvw, can we update MOTD with this accomplishment?

There doesn't seem to be a world wide server announcement when one happens, so why don't we do it ourselves on our local media...guild chat for online, forums for off line (Airic started that one..thanks!).
Seeing the MOTD get updated with the info live, might cause a chain reaction and get some folks to Que up that otherwise might not have...or could in general get some cheers coming to our wvw team in /gu atleast for the victory.

Guild Wars 2 - Isle of Janthir / GW2 addresses Issues
« on: August 30, 2012, 10:25:02 AM »
Reddit link

This is the current status of the most important issues we're tracking with Guild Wars 2 live service.

Account security - We're seeing an uptick in reports of account theft and attempted account theft. We believe hackers are using databases of email addresses and passwords stolen from other games and web sites, and pre-existing trojan horses, to search for matching Guild Wars 2 accounts which they attempt to compromise. To prevent this, we have temporarily disabled the "reset password" feature, and we're working to bring email authentication online. To protect yourself, please ensure that you use a unique password for Guild Wars 2 that you don't use for any other game, email account, forum or web account.

Email authentication - Email authentication is a feature that notifies you if someone tries to log into your account from a location you've never logged in from before. Thus, even if someone guesses your game password, he can't log in unless he also guesses your email account password. You can make email authentication even more secure by using an email provider that supports two-factor authentication, such as Google or Yahoo, and taking advantage of that. We're currently preparing email authentication and intend to deploy it in a phased rollout, starting on Thursday, August 30.

Parties, guilds, etc. - Parties, guilds, and other social features are periodically failing. This causes issues such as party members not appearing on the map, and party members not staying in the same overflow servers as they travel between maps. This happens particularly during times of peak usage. We're working to fix related problems and mitigate this issue with each subsequent update.

Worlds - Many worlds are filling up. We're keeping the number of worlds constrained so that worlds stay well populated even after the initial surge of high concurrency. However, we will add worlds as necessary. As of Wednesday, August 30, all German language worlds are full and all French language worlds are at high usage, so we're adding two new German language worlds and one new French language world.

Overflow worlds - During this initial surge of high concurrency, and especially while many characters are low-level and thus playing in the same starting areas, it's common for players to be directed to overflow maps. If you want to play with a friend, but you’re not on the same overflow map, you can form a party together, then right-click on your friend's portrait in the party list and click "join". Note that this functionality is sometimes intermittently unavailable due to the "parties, guilds, etc." issues noted above.

Trading Post - We're working to bring the Trading Post back online. To help test, we've temporarily made it available to a random 15% of players, while we work to resolve remaining capacity constraints that will allow us to open it to everyone.

Edit: We have completed our live testing of the Trading Post for today and the Trading Post is now in maintenance for all players. Thank you everyone that participated; this test has helped us tremendously.

In-game mail - We detected a potential abuse of the in-game mail system and have temporarily disabled in-game mail to prevent any such abuse. We'll reenable it soon, hopefully in tonight's update.

Edit: The fact that in-game mail is disabled means that it's currently impossible for account hackers to loot stolen accounts, so we're going to leave it disabled for just a little while longer, while we work to ramp up email authentication.

Botting - We'll start substantial banning of bots on Wednesday, August 29. Since we're currently seeing widespread casual, unsophisticated botting, we will start with 72-hour bans for first offenses. In the coming days, as we address the casual botting problem, we plan to switch to our normal policy of permanently banning anyone who runs a bot.

Forums - Our most important priority at the moment is to ensure that the game runs stably and flawlessly. So as to not create additional demand on our infrastructure and on our programming team, we made the decision not to open the forums until the initial mass influx of players has calmed down a bit.

Next software updates - The next update of the game server and back-end server software will take place tonight at midnight Seattle time. The game may be unavailable for approximately 20-60 minutes while we perform the update. We expect this update to have fixes for email authentication and in-game mail. Our continued work on the Trading Post is not tied to game updates, so we will continue to test Trading Post updates throughout the day.

Guild Wars 2 - Isle of Janthir / GW2 sets Pre-launch Record
« on: August 28, 2012, 12:20:37 PM »
Read full artical here
Quote
When it comes to pre-purchase, those people that put their money down on one of the three available additions of the game, the game sold very well.

Quote
In any case, publisher NCsoft is sharing preliminary numbers for all you MMO comparison wonks: Over one million players paid to play the game ($60 standard, $150 collector’s, and it’s free-to-play thereafter) during the three-day early start. And that’s not counting the one-day preorders or, obviously, whatever sales the game enjoys today as it officially launches.
That’s right, one-million people pre-purchased the game and that is a very strong number! But that number is vastly larger than the 400,000 user number mentioned as the title of this article. What does that number represent?
Quote
So that’s sales, but how many people are actually playing this thing? During the headstart phase, NCsoft says demand for the game topped 400,000 simultaneous online players, calling it a “record-breaking” figure for an MMO pre-launch.

Gadgets, Gizmos, and Computers / Razor mouse acting wierd
« on: August 09, 2012, 02:11:50 PM »
I have a Razor that i got as a christmas present about 2 years ago.

its a great mouse, has always responded with slight finger touch on the right or left clicks.

for the last couple days, my left click has a nice "click" sound to it but when i use it to do a drop box or select something it is almost like I am quickly double clicking the box...it flashes open/shut....the box will remain open if I hold the left click down and try to drag the pointer over, but its touch and go.

all my software is up to date on it...:(  am I losing my razor?

Other Games and Interests / EQ Classic
« on: August 05, 2012, 08:44:50 AM »
This might be the best rework/revitalized attempt of recreating EQ classic.
They started this project in 2009 i believe. A lot of work is ramping up now and i would think the beta will open soon and launch soon after.

This dev team is really pulling out the professional knowledge and tools to get a EQ classic emulation for the
die hard EQ fans. But they have given now time frame yet.

Check it out here EQ classic

I will be following this and will be ready to roll on launch.

Other Games and Interests / Everquest Al'kabor Server - EQmac for PC
« on: June 27, 2012, 12:24:41 PM »
I can’t get over Everquest...There! I said it.

After 13 years, I am still thinking this is the best community, game world and content to ever come along. I have yet to find a MMO to hold my interest and give me as many memories and fun times. Stemming all the way back to live up until the current emulators I have played on. It remains the same game and the time I have spent in them are guaranteed to give me enjoyment.

EQMac is my new server, I just started a Enchanter/Mage duo, if any other EQ`ers out there want to start up, here are some information links and postings I found helpful to get me started.

The expansions for this server stop at POP.  So all the best EQ raiding is avail from classic to Pop, which IMHO is the best of the best of EQ dragons, kings, bosses, villains, mobs and quests.

I wanted to share this with TG other gamers in case someone else is looking for a good filler game…that’s free. I plan on playing GW2 and EQMac between both games I should have a great mix of old and new MMo to keep me happy…I`m so tired of playing the New Release hype game with any new MMO coming out….I`m done!

-------------------------- Here are a few things to know about the EQMac version ---------------------------------

EQMac It's here to stay, for the foreseeable future (years). They are keeping the server up and free to play and yet the server will also still have a little bit of actual CS from Hobbart (win). Plus there are player GM's that have been around for years; apparently they don't really do events much anymore (used to do one every 2 weeks or so back in 2009), but they are still around for various things. What will be shutdown is the Windows patcher - so you'll likely only be able to play from Mac very soon (this was posted as of last Feb '12, patcher still up)

Server resets every other week at 3AM PST on Wednesday Morning, so make sure to log 5 minutes before or risk dieing, there is no warning for this to happen.

There are a ridiculous amount of bugs that you wont know about...

The petition system in game does not work, you must use the website, a GM comes to the server approximately once a month.

Do not play with sound on, it will crash you to desktop alot. Turn off master sound at the start of the game, unless you wanna sit in rivervale/misty thicket for nostalgia...

Must be lvl 43+ to group with a 65 and get xp

46 for PoT PoJ PoN PoI and PoD
55 for PoV Pos PoTorment and CoD
60 for Tactics
62 for BoT and HoH
rest is flag only

old planes are 46
PoM entrance is at ass end of NTOV

General leveling path for folks
Starting Areas till 10
Kurns at 10 till mid teens
PC till mid 20's
HK till 30
CC till 35
Echo till 46

The average AK population is much older , 30's etc, so the juvenile wowtard is frowned upon.

DC Destiny and Temerity are in VT
Temerity has been there for years, others just got in recently.

All guilds are in agreement to not wake sleeper to make sure ST stays with old loot tables etc

General Channels are not autojoin, so you have to manually join the channels you want: for example: autojoin General, Beastlord, Planes

To afk train spells: go to pok, target a guard, keep hotkey pushed down, it will autocast, come back with maxed skill, enjoy

To afk train weapon/melee skills: find a friend with pet hold skill, duel and faceroll on pet while pet holds.

;tell lewt itemname
returns an itemlink for you to check out, if the item exists on the server, it will return, if its not on the server, it wont return.

Best places to make plat these days are Hill Giants in Rathe Mtns, the 3 Ice Giants outside Permafrost, and of course by farming mats for high level tradeskillers (check eqmac.com Marketplace forum or even put in an ad offering services). Once in the higher levels, guards in Santus Seru can drop several plat. My ranger goes up on the 2nd level wall with new apps to Temerity to headshot farm the VT shard and I can pick up several hundred plat pretty quick. But, your biggest $$ is in tradeskill mat farming or making subcombines like Celestial Essence (use a Mortar & Pestle on Al'Kabor, not a Mixing Bowl).

------------------------------- instructions for PC ---------------------------------
This is a guide for you to play EverQuest Mac's Al`Kabor Server on the PC Client. It utilizes a very old Planes of Power client that still contains the original, classic UI, as well as the Velious UI. In addition, it features the classic character select and creation screens. However, to fully function correctly, you must completely follow the steps ahead under "How to Install," including enabling the Luclin UI and disabling the Classic/Velious UI.

How to install
1. Install EverQuest Titanium edition and move the folder to C:\
2. Rename the EQ Titanium folder to "EQMac"
3. Download the new Intel EQMac Client located here: Launchpad 4
4. When the new EQMac client is fully patched, find the folder (default location is C:\Users\Public\Sony Online Entertainment\EverQuest Mac or C:\Users\Default\AppData\Sony Online Entertainment\EverQuest Mac)
5. Go into the folder "EverQuest Mac" > "Contents" > "Resources"
6. In "Resources" folder, Select All > Copy > Paste to your C:\EQMac folder. Overwrite all.
7. Extract the zip file located here: Images Host | File Host - FileB.ag - Download EQMac Windows Secrets Edition zip to C:\EQMac. Overwrite all.
8. In C:\EQMac, right click eqw.exe > Properties > Compatibility Settings > Check Run as Administrator > OK.
9. Run eqw.exe
10. If you cannot get it to work (experience weird error), rerun eqw.exe and check "Fix eqclient.ini". This should fix the problem.
11. IMPORTANT: Edit eqclient.ini NewUI=TRUE instead of NewUI=FALSE (This removes the Classic and Velious UI in favor of the Luclin UI, however, the client is much more stable and actually 100% playable as opposed to playing with the older UIs. My suggestion: try the old UIs for a little bit for nostalgia purposes, but inevitably you should switch to Luclin UI for full game functionality! )
11. (Optional): Rename eqtheme.mp3, combattheme1.mp3, combattheme2.mp3, deaththeme.mp3, lavastorm.mp3, guk.mp3, and nektulos.mp3 to have the original classic MIDI versions restored!
12. (Optional): Go to eqclient.ini, and change LOADARMOR17 through LOADARMOR23 from =FALSE to =TRUE. Change LoadVeliousArmorsWithLuclin=FALSE to LoadVeliousArmorsWithLuclin=TRUE (This will allow you to see Velious armor skins)

FAQ

What is EQMac, and why is it so special?
EQMac's Al`Kabor server is a server trapped in time. It's final patch coincided with an EQPC patch from late 2002. It features the original zones and most of the original models from EverQuest Vanilla through the Planes of Power expansion. Except for a few miscellaneous updates such as changes to encounters in Ragrax, Stronghold of the Twelve's Rathe Council boss encounter, and fixes to Plane of Time, it is exactly how it was back in late 2002.

Is EQMac an emulator?
No, it's a live SOE server. It functions very well, and is more functional than traditional "emulated" classic servers. Additionally, most EverQuest emulators force you to use the Trilogy client or later. This allows you to use the classic client that you grew to love from the early days of the game.

How much does EQMac cost to play?
Nothing! Account activation is free, and the subscription fee has been removed as of February 14th, 2012. I urge you to e-mail SOE and thank them for making such an amazing server!

Is this mod illegal to use on the server?
Hard question to answer -- although it is very unlikely any action will be taken towards your account. Dozens of people have been using this patch on the server so far with no issues, myself included. I've talked in game face to face with EQMac's only Coder using the client, and didn't get banned. So you should be fine.

Is there any known bugs with this PC EQMac client?
Yes, but only if you opt to use the Classic and Velious UIs over the Luclin UI. The ones I've found are as follows:
-Cannot buy or sell using Bazaar zone traders.
-Cannot link items or see item links.
-Cannot talk in raid chat or see the raid window (can still receive raid experience and see others talk in raid)
-Cannot use 1600x1200 resolution in the Velious UI (reverts to 640x480)
-Music will often continue looping even if you have left the area it's from (main/character load theme most common)
-Some items are invisible on corpses and in your inventory. (Uncommon, only noticed a random PoP quest item doing this so far.)

That's it for now. See you on Al`Kabor!

Korea prohibits trade of online game items

By Cho Mu-hyun

Korea has decided to ban trade for commercial game items from the second half of this year as a measure aimed at encouraging students to not waste time.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has announced that it is planning to halt all virtual item trades with a new law, to be announced sometime next month.

“The main purpose of the games is for entertainment and should be used for academic and other good purposes,” said Kim Kap-soo, head of the ministry’s content policy division, Wednesday.

The government official also stressed item collecting for commercial use is a serious hindrance to creating a healthy game culture.
Korea is the world’s most-wired society with the Internet penetration rate standing at above 93 percent, data from government agencies said. Korea is also the home of the world’s biggest smartphone and TV manufacturer _ Samsung.

For online role-playing games, the law prohibits users from using programs that allow in-game characters to hunt and collect items without the need of a player controlling them.

The ministry calculates that over 60 percent of items exchanged on the market were obtained by the use of automatic programs. Such programs and other method are impinging in the way of on-line games’ negative reputation, the government agency said.

Those who violate this law will face up to a 50 million won fine, at a maximum, and five years in jail.

For arcade games, game providers will be unable to list in-game items in their accounts as property, or handout gift certificates for item purchases. In 2007, the then popular arcade game Sea Story handed out certificates that were quickly exchanged or sold for cash, and the government is concerned that a similar incident may reoccur.

The ministry said that arcade game businesses that keep books registering items and scores (that can be exchanged for cash) has risen to 1,500 as of April. There were only 50 such businesses in 2009.

In a statement, the ministry says item trades contribute to many problems in society, including teenage crime, and felt that a solution was required.

The ministry is planning to give active guidelines to provincial administrations and have the police department actively enforce the new law. The government is also heightening prevention of gambling and other illegal activities using games.

Korea is a hub for online role-playing games, which have also drawn concern because of the booming trade in virtual money and items.

This is about  day late and a dollar short, but nice to see it coming.

Guild Wars 2 - Isle of Janthir / PvE 35+ content?
« on: June 14, 2012, 03:57:45 PM »
Just curious if this was open to us during BWE2?

I know they opened the 30-35 zone and the dungeon, (which was fun) is this all there is for now?
We have 80 lvs to grow in this game when it releases, is this higher content even developed yet I wonder?

Personally I am content to keep doing BWEs if the content isn't ready, I would hate for it to release with only up to 40-50 lv content and everyone hits the ceiling in a week/month and the population gets ruined..."game not finished..i`m out of here..." sad thing is, This would be Par for the coarse on most recent MMOs released :(

So are my concerns unfounded? is there a complete 80s game being kept from us? or am i jumping to conclusions?
