General Concensus?

So, I was in the BETA and I must say that after I had gotten so far (lvl 40 or so), I actually fell out of love with the game.  It was super buggy (and I'm hearing still a lot of bugs), and I just think that GW2 might be better (seeing as no subscription price).  What do you all think of the game in its current stage?  Is ToR worth playing right now?

Its a temporary diversion for me. With your standard WoW-esque endgame it has no long term appeal to me. I might try GW2 eventually, not sure yet asI could never really get into the first one. I'll definitely be giving Dominus a try when it comes out though.

Bug wise for TOR... I haven't noticed many during the times I've played. There have been a couple minor ones but nothing game-breaking and BioWare has done a decent job of fixing them in a timely manner.

I've found The Old Republic to be fun and enjoyable for the story aspect. It's a good game and BioWare is adding a lot of improvements to it in the coming months (the legacy system is getting expanded on next month in March). I'm going to keep playing it even after GW2 (which is going to be my primary game) comes out.

As for Guild Wars 2... that game is going to be very different from how SWTOR plays. Have to keep in mind that ArenaNet has decided to throw out almost the entire rulebook on how to make an MMO (following the model set down by Everquest, World of Warcraft, and others - tank/healer/dps (holy trinity), static world (quests that don't change your surroundings). GW2 made it so that every class can self-heal, no tanks, and the dynamic event system that can change a zone based on a player's action or inaction.

Your experience, Conflict, is the reason I try to stay out of betas. You get the disadvantages of being a quality control game tester (frustration) without the benefits (paychecks and a health plan). You get to play free and are providing important services (feedback and high server loading) but in the final analysis, you are still being exploited.

LOL, very, VERY few testers ever get health plans.  Mostly contract workers with no benefits other than the paycheck - which is very small.

As far as the OP goes, the bugs have cleaned up a lot.  I was still crashing sometimes the first couple of weeks after launch, but I never do anymore.  There are still some bugs that shouldn't be there this late, but mostly cosmetic - like dead mobs not falling and such. Overall, I'm just not all that impressed with the game and am looking forward to GW2, PS2 and want to see some game footage of Secret World.  ;)

I'm enjoying the game quite a bit. The story is fun, and I'm looking forward to creating various alts, including in the Empire (just so I can have cookies, mind you). I want to experiment with the different styles of characters and see how their stories differ. I recognize that they are not all completely unique; that'd be an unreasonable expectation, imo.

I like how I can play solo, with a few missions tossed in where I need to collaborate. I've discovered that I really enjoy PVP (even though I'm really squishy right now), and I like that there is PVP on the planets in mission areas. I thought I didn't like PVP after playing Age of Conan due to the number of times I was killed immediately when exiting the safe towns. More experienced players may not have had any issues, granted. I may have been outside their target audience. That said, I like how I can be happily travelling along in TOR and be surprised by a non-Republic player. Yeah, there are times where the PVP becomes a problem. It's not right away, and I can usually go do something else if it's too frustrating.

BW did a good job with the game, imo. I've not seen many game-stopping bugs or lots of crashing myself. I'm not trying to be first or have the best armour (points to squishy comment), so my play style is very casual. This is one of many interests for me. It's not the end-all or be-all, though it is the only game I'm playing.

Perhaps you just need a break, as others suggested in the similar thread here http://www.guardianhq.com/swtor/has-anyone-else-lost-the-desire-to-play/?

Good luck, whatever you decide to do.
