September beta
« on: August 28, 2011, 12:19:21 AM »
8:41p - Q: Weekend beta testing, is it random or based on preorder?

8:41p - A: Panel tomorrow. Can't talk about it.

GET EXCITED!
If you want to read the rest of the Q&A BW held tonight at 7 PDT then go to www.darthhater.com  The questions this time around are much better than ones we're used to seeing.

Also it has been confirmed that the testing will start September 2nd and Invites will be sent with enough time to DL the  game.  This comes from SR's twitter.  He also says that a lot of "our" questions will be answered once the BW team is settled back in Austin.

Day 3 panel quote on DarthHater:

"We announced that we are expanding game testing weekends in September, and what do you know that's right around the corner. As of next weekend, the first weekend of September, we are greatly expanding the testing program and we're bringing in a whole new group of invitations to a random server, so make sure you guys are signed up for testing, and we'll continue to expand that as we go through-out September. So we're going to turn some knobs, poke some switches as we learn some stuff, and then do it all over again, and we'll continue to build and build testers and actually have you guys tell us how to create the biggest launch that we can. What I can say is that if you are signed up for testing, even if you don't get in next weekend, you should be getting in very soon."

Can't wait!

I'm going to be curious to see if they use purely a Trion/SOE style download system where they distribute it 100% from their own servers , or a Bllizzard pseudo-Torrent style.

Both have advantages/disadvantages , especially at a massive rush like initial huge beta waves and launch.

Day 3 panel quote on DarthHater:

This phrasing makes me think they will not be on the main beta server, also with the wordings of their statements if you get in and carry over to the next weekend you will be character wiped each time.  Was wondering how this would work since the later game is not ready for mass play yet

I think this beta weekends are for stress testing their systems and they are  probably going to  put a level cap.

Interesting! I hope I get a beta invite! (Obviously):)

I'm just afraid they won't give me one because my computer isn't top notch. Do you guys think it's important to have a really good computer in order to get a beta invite? I mean my current computer is decent and I'll probably be able to run the game without any problems just not on the highest resolution :(

I don't think you need a high end computer because they would want to see how it runs on most systems. At this time I think they are not looking at systems anymore because they removed the link for system specs.

I am looking at getting this a GeForce GTX 560Ti even tho my CPU will  bottleneck it. That way I will have the GPU for when I do build my new computer.

In fact as far as specs go , from various forums like the FoH one , and few others folks I know personally that have been in beta for several months now, having a high end system seems to be the rarity for getting invited. It can hurt your chances slightly. And often works that way and I should have remembered that when initially submitting my system specs.

The one guy I know in real life who's been in beta for quite a bit now has  completely mid-rang specs across the board , CPU , ram , video card etc. That seems to be a common trend.

I've got a 580gtx and Sandy Bridge i7 oc'd to 4.4 , 8 GB ram etc and from all the data I've seen , it's the exception to see folks with invites who have a 580 or 590 on the Nvidia side , or a high end 6900x series on the ATI side.

As in they know those video cards will push it fine , and tuning it they need more mid range ones.

So I assume by now you've heard SR clarify that invites are for North America and that in-fact Canada IS part of NA.  Lol
