Introducing the ESO Guild Crafters
« on: February 19, 2014, 04:06:12 pm »

Greetings Guardians!

Before I get into the details of guild crafters I just want to touch on something that was brought up by a few people recently. In no way will The Guardians ever force someone to do something in a game. We are not a hardcore guild in any way. What I am trying to do with this is find dedicated people who want to help the guild, people who are willing to go above and beyond what a normal crafter in the guild would do. I want to make it perfectly clear that everyone is allowed to do whatever they want in the game whether that is crafting, PVE or PVP. This plan also has the potential to adapt as more information becomes available, as with most games where we only know a piece of the puzzle, nothing is written in stone.

ESO has presented us with a unique situation. Finally a game where the best loot is actually made by crafters. This gave us the idea of making dedicated crafters for each crafting profession (to start). From there I talked to a bunch of people and tried to hash out a game plan that would work with minimal effort. Well it turns out there may be a bit more effort involved but from all the support I have gotten talking to people I think we can make this work.

The primary reason we will have a main guild crafter for each crafting profession is to optimize our research and level them up as fast as possible and deconstructing items (sending them loot) is the fastest way to level up crafting. If you have played in any of the recent betas you know managing your loot becomes a big issue due to the minimal inventory space. Instead of people deleting items in their inventory I want them to send them to the people who need the items. This will benefit the crafters and guild as a whole in a number of ways. Note that sending mats to guild crafters is completely optional and if you need a couple of gold instead of mailing it, it is no problem. That being said there are basic low level white items that are very valuable to the guild, especially at the start of the game. I hope to have a list of items to look out for posted prior to launch and have someone manage it for the first few weeks when we need the most amount of organization.

I personally think having some of the first end game crafters in the game will be a great achievement for us and help us get our end game gear made in house instead of paying billions to secure items outside of the guild. It may even provide us with a bit of extra revenue for funding the war engine or anything else the guild needs to buy once the Guardian Trading Company is set up. The primary responsibility of guild crafters will be making end games items for the guild, less focus will be on providing people with low level gear, especially since there is a  much more efficient way to equip yourself while leveling. Details to come on that.

This is just the tip of the iceburg when it comes to crafting and I have plenty of more information to roll out as we get closer to the game.

As our crafters level up and start to use higher end mats they will start to have less of a demand on lower level items. This is where the apprenticeship program will come into play. Think of it as you big brother or sister’s hand-me-downs. While no one really likes handed down stuff in real life I think anyone would appreciate help leveling up their crafting classes. I plan to make a post in the following week for apprentice sign ups and the role they will play in the big picture. For now I can say they are for more casual crafters in the guild. Also, I am very pro-diversifying our crafting core, the first guild crafters will not be the last and our effort to help up and coming crafters will remain a focus throughout the game.

As a final note when you see this list of our initial crafters you will notice a few doubles. The only one that is taking on two main crafting roles is Jax. While I don’t like to play favourites, anyone who knows Jax knows he is nuts when it comes to crafting. Not only was he the highest leveled crafter through the last two betas, he was also the highest leveled player with the most points invested in crafting. Also, you will see Matsumae listed under two crafting roles, Alchemy and Light Armor. While he is dedicated to Light Armor crafting Alchemy is going to be in huge demand for us, especially in end game and because they are consumable. So to start, Aryne and Matsumae will be splitting the mats for this profession. I hope to also find two more apprentices interested in Alchemy which would potentially put us at 4 Guild crafters in Alchemy alone.

There is still one position open as well, and that is guild provisioner. If anyone is interested please contact me.
(edit: guild provisioner position has been taken pending a couple days.)

Soon as I figure out what class/role I want to play, I'd like an apprenticeship when I return from Qatar. :) Love the idea.

I can do provisioning also.

I plan to make a google spreadsheet tied to my character that lists all of the mats I have on hand along with any additional information that would provide full disclosure to the guild.  Would also allow for an efficient way to show pending jobs, resource constraints, etc.

Sounds good man, we had a long talk about the apprenticeship aspects of crafting and how to do them properly, details will be released next week hopefully.

I actually was talking to someone in PMs about the provisioning position. It is a go pending some details but trust me, you will have your hands full with enchanting :) There could be some possible things you could help with though, we actually have a spreadsheet on the go right now we could use some help with, should have some info out soon on it but I will send you a pm on some of the details.

Sounds good, just didn't want it to remain unslotted.  You had a good point about alchemy that also carries over to provisioning, in that they are consumable.

Glad to hear further coordination is in the works, ensuring the crafter's have a way to show which resources or schematics they need will make it easier for the guild to support as a single unit.  really like what I'm seeing so far, especially with how much effort you are putting into getting things ready for prime time.

After this weekend I will have an answer to if I am playing this game. If I am, as I hate crafting and would rather not, I pledge to help out with whatever mats might be needed. I like to explore and mine, just not keen on crafting. Maybe I will apprentice a little later, but for know I can help by having mats for you guys

After watching the Blacksmithing video ZeniMax posted, I've become more interested in crafting in this game. I love the idea of specializing in sets and different aspects of the crafts.

I'm not entirely sure what I'm going to go with just yet, but I'm definitely going to invest in some crafting skills.
