ESO: Interactive Map
« on: December 04, 2013, 05:35:23 pm »
Didn't see a link for this yet on our forums.  It's actually pretty cool, as they've populated it with bits of the various cultural conflicts, history/lore details, correspondence with various people in the regions, etc.  It gives a better sense of how they are going to build the internal conflicts between the Alliance members, and a little bit of the propaganda for the external factions conflict. You can find it here:

So each faction will only have between 5-7 zones to play through?  The isle of Betnikh is about the same play size as any of the starter planets in SWTOR, or the starter isle in EQ2, just as a frame of reference.  Which isn't very big, so assuming size on that map is all relative, that's a VERY small & and thus quick, playable area.

I know once you reach max level in your homeland you can explore the other lands, but they haven't given much detail out on how this will work in reality.  So I'm a little concerned.

They are supposed to open up new content as the game progresses and it appears that the pvp area that also has quests is over 5 times bigger then the pve zones.

Honestly, I hope that map is not the final map of the zones we are getting at launch. If it is, I'm going to pass on ESO for at least a year until more of the continent is open. For me I really was looking forward to exploring the homelands of the Altmer and the Khajiit and based on the map, we get a tiny little island of the Altmer and absolutely nothing of the Khajiit homelands.

(edited- do not break the NDA please)

Honestly zones in general turn me off in MMO's.  What the hell happened to just massive open worlds without zone lines?

They never really existed in the first place. Most games divide them by chunks and as you get near the next chunk it preloads data so it's seamless, but it's still zoned.

Yes but it doesn't give that feeling of separation when they use the chunk tech.  Instead say in FFXIV, EQ2, GW2, etc etc  I just get a big feeling of separation when I go from zone to zone.  Instead of feeling like it's a big massive world.

It just doesn't make sense why they would split it up based on race/faction. I hope they don't. I mean are there guards standing at the border? Is there a fence? At least make it possible to go there but make all the other people hostile? It seems silly to limit access to areas based purely on race/faction.

In the past  they said it was split and you had to get to max level before going to new lands to explore them because you had to cross the max level pvp area. They've also said you can't play with friends in other factions or join guilds with them. I hope it's all changed. Not very TES like at all.

Also agree, though I still think it will be faction zoned and then pvp zoned. Yes, not very elder scrollsesque, but I'll take the sacrifice for an online ES game.
