Interface Guide to TESO
« on: March 02, 2014, 08:59:52 pm »
This is a basic guide on how to communicate and function in The Elder Scrolls Online. Because TESO is account based, account names are useful for communicating, and once you're in the guild, all your characters are automatically in guild for all factions. A menu for interactions can be accessed by right clicking on someone's name.

Chatting and Guild
/tell to whisper someone.
G opens the Guild interface; mouseover for character names.
/g1 to talk in guild chat.
/zone for general/zone chat.

General
.   [period] brings up the mouse pointer.
'   [apostrophe] opens the mail interface and can be used anywhere.
E allows for interaction with many items.
Alt closes pretty much anything.
K opens the Character Sheet.
Alt opens the last interface that was open.
See the emote list compiled by Ambrosia.
Another great list: I wish I knew that before!

Questing and Combat
J opens the Journal interface.
F shares the selected quest.
T rotates through quests when not in the Journal interface.
Ctrl allows you to crouch and become hidden; useful for PvE and PvP.
F12 focuses heals on self, though as of March 3 it is understood this will likely be removed in the next build.

Grouping
/group to talk in group chat.
P opens the Group interface.
E allows you to invite players.
X allows you to leave group.
Groupfinder is located along the top of the interface, at the right.

Campaigns in Cyrodiil
TG will always represent the Daggerfall Covenant in Cyrodiil.
L opens the Campaign interface.
The Campaign listing is located along the top of the interface, at the right.
Select the home campaign for TG; home is where XP is earned and where most TG group PvP will occur.
Press E to enter the selected campaign and then accept in Notifications.
The Transitus Shrines are not connected to the Wayshrines. Wayshrines are used to exit Cyrodiil; Transitus Shrines are used to quick travel between Keeps.

Crafting
This is almost a world unto its own. Crafting locations can be found throughout the world.
Multiple tabs are available along the top menu of the interface for various aspects of crafting.
Please see the Crafting Discussion for more specific information.

User Interface
See the video Arthearius posted below for how to minimize the UI, making it appear more like a traditional ES game.

This list will be updated as needed, and suggestions are welcome. Hopefully these will help you explore the vast world of Tamriel.

In the patch notes they apparently took this out of the next build for some reason, not confirmed though.

That seems odd. How do they propose we heal ourselves?

Target nobody so it defaults to self?

I get the feeling they are designing a non-targeted self healing approach to the healing lines.  You will see several skills that add self-healing as part of the group healing.

Here's something we can add to the Interface guide in regards to options the UI has:

I noticed on my Templar if I didn't have a target for my heals, it targeted myself. This makes it a very powerful and easy to use system. Target no one, heal self, and if specced to AOE, AOE heal centered on yourself. Target other to heal them, and if specced AOE, AOE heal centered on target. All with one ability. In other games this would require 2-4 abilities.

This makes me want to try a healing spec

Yeah most MMOs now have that option of "auto targeting self" if nobody else is chosen.  It's great when soloing and your target is the enemy - you can keep the mobs targeted and heal yourself without switching anything .

Thanks for the suggestions. I updated the list, combining the Combat info with Questing and adding an Interface section.

Check out the emote list, too. There are some very expressive and hilarious emotes in the game, such as hammering on walls, throwing buckets of water, all kinds of stuff you wouldn't expect.
