I'm less enthusiastic about Captain Marvel. Will likely wait for video on that one.

I have no excitement for Captain Marvel.  Partially because the movie is retconning the MCU and making her the first modern Hero and not Iron Man.  and also, I never did like the character in the comics that much, so I don't like that they are trying to force her into the "Tony Stark Role" as the central MCU character post Avengers 4.

Didn't they already kind do the retcon (had to look up the word) thing when they brought in Cap? Either way, if they do it half decent I'll still watch it.

There's a lot of movies to mull over really quick, but put on the spot, I think the misdirections in IM3 are still my least favorite MCU thing done. Teasing Pepper in a "Rescue" suit and having the Mandarin be a fake villain was kind of low. I get it from the bait-and-switch/twist standpoint of that movie, but it was still a let down.

I still liked IM3 more than IM2. And The mini film centering on Trevor in prison confirmed that the real Mandarin is still out there. They can really go all out with the character in the future.

Yeah, I think Brie Larson is the biggest casting error they've made. Her performance ability does not have the range to carry a superhero film, much less a franchise like Downey or Evans can.

I don't consider that a Retcon.  1) Captain America has always been created during WW2 and has always been a WW2 vet.  the frozen in ice hibernation is consistent with the comics in how he is in the modern world.  2) They find his frozen body during the events of Thor.  Iron Man 1 and 2 and Thor 1 all occur before they defrost Cap and realize he is alive.

what they are doing with Captain Marvel is making her the "first" modern human hero by having her origin story set in the 1980s.

I agree with you fully on the bait and switch in IM3.  that was such crap.  one of the worst things they have done in the MCU.

Idk if you've read any marvel comics lately but shes always in charge of everything now.  She's been taking over almost every leadership role for like 5 years now.  I think the only comics that shes in and not leading is A-Force.

Yeah, they've been shoe-horning her in way too hard to just about everything in recent years. I hear her book has been relaunched 12 times in that short span of time. Not even exaggerating. There's plenty more female heroes they could of brought to the forefront, but they chose the most boring one.

Today it was announced that Jessica Jones and The Punisher series are now officially done on Netflix. So the street level stuff is officially over.

I suspect that after Endgame, I'll retire this thread. If someone else wants to continue they are welcome to. I might be ready to move on from the MCU after that, depending on the direction it goes.

Watching back through Infinity War again, this line from Loki at the beginning of the film really sticks out.

Quote
“I assure you brother, the sun will shine on us again.”

Two observations:

1. this isn't Loki's first rodeo in the death arena. He's quite good at faking it, despite Thanos' quip of "no resurrections this time".
2. "the sun", or rather, a star, was shown quite literally upon Thor late in the film, and he survived.

Now that the film is out, you may discuss, but let's give about two weeks from today before spoilers can be discussed to allow for all of us to see it.

I myself won't get to see it until Tuesday afternoon.

Stuff I loved:
The hammer lift and subsequent fight scene with it was probably one of my favorite parts of the film. So cool.

All stuff related to time heist was great. Thor's reunion with his mother was great and added some significant closure for him.

Things which weren't good (to me):
All scenes with Capt. Marvel. She was a complete shoe-horn. It's like they filmed everything with her after the fact. The silliest part was after the time jump and on holo-call said she needed to go check out strange seismic activity on some distant planet as a result of Thanos' second snap. What could be more important than helping the Avengers undo the first one, and possibly undoing the second one from ever happening as well? Weak sauce writing.

Professor Hulk didn't throw a single significant punch. He didn't get to be seen fighting whatsoever, and aside from Banner using his brains for the quantum-jumping and successfully doing his own snap, he didn't get to do any combat of his own. Unfortunate, but I get the time constraints too.

All in all: good wrap up of the story. As stated before, I'll probably be dialing down my viewing of future installments. Not necessarily missing them, just catching them when I'm able to unless a particular movie really piques my interest.

Agreed on Captain Marvel.  One thing that really bothered me toward the end was the fact that Hulk, the strongest being on the planet other than Thanos himself, can barely contain the power of the stones and takes forever to compose himself and snap his fingers.  Fast forward 10 minutes and Tony throws them all in a makeshift gauntlet and effortlessly snaps his fingers.

All in all though it went in a bit of a different direction than I expected but it was a great total recap of the series and I enjoyed it.  I'm excited to see where they will go now that they are working with their full license again.
