Some early tips:Don't get build happy with your mining stations. The ones that make credits are maintenance-free and should be a priority. The others all cost 1 energy per, so building a bunch of mining ones might get you in deep doo-doo.Watch your minerals too, as colonies take a long time to get up but in the long-run getting those up sooner is better. However, make sure you've got the energy to take the hit (-8 for setup, which is probably around 1.5 years given travel time).Mandates are in your situation log. You don't HAVE to do them, but they do give influence.If you can, avoid using too many frontier outposts. They cost a lost influence and you lose 1/turn, as well as a lot of energy a turn.ABS - always be scouting. I usually buy a second scout ship at the start and send it out to try and get an edge, and I prioritize surveying techs early.
Interesting. So one issue I have with my current game is I never got shields. I just realized I have been passing up a planetary shield tech that i think leads to it. Opps. I thought maybe I couldn't get them.
