Stellaris
« on: May 11, 2016, 01:40:17 AM »

4X Grand Strategy Sci-fi! So much epicness! It's cross-platform multiplayer and Steam Workshop. This is a pretty deep game and I'm looking forward to sinking some time into this over the next couple years. So, here's a thread to discuss and share wins/losses, favorite mods, etc. Have at it!

I bought it and put in about 10 hours so far. I really like it though it needs some bug fixes and some UI improvements. I trust Paradox will fix the issues and none of the issues have stopped me playing it. I have learned a lot but think I need to watch some streams to full understand the game. Trying to understand how to see if your winning a war. I have seen streamers mention stats on who is winning but can't find them in the game.

I'm enjoying it and feeling it out myself before tuning in to a stream or let's play so I can try and find the little nooks and crannies. My Photecian empire is already burgeoning. So far I'm not modding or altering it.

Some early tips:

Don't get build happy with your mining stations. The ones that make credits are maintenance-free and should be a priority. The others all cost 1 energy per, so building a bunch of mining ones might get you in deep doo-doo.

Watch your minerals too, as colonies take a long time to get up but in the long-run getting those up sooner is better. However, make sure you've got the energy to take the hit (-8 for setup, which is probably around 1.5 years given travel time).

Mandates are in your situation log. You don't HAVE to do them, but they do give influence.

If you can, avoid using too many frontier outposts. They cost a lost influence and you lose 1/turn, as well as a lot of energy a turn.

ABS - always be scouting. I usually buy a second scout ship at the start and send it out to try and get an edge, and I prioritize surveying techs early.

Greenman Gaming code for 25% off is SPACE25. Works on all 3 versions. A Steam key will be given, just add to steam.

There is a checkbox in the lower right hand toolbar next to the search box. It toggles on a lot of good info.

Something I didn't learn till late is that there is a circle icon above the lower right toolbar when you are in a war. It gives you war stats on who is winning and why.

Found a, I think, fan-made, tech tree that may be of use to us.

Interesting. So one issue I have with my current game is I never got shields. I just realized I have been passing up a planetary shield tech that i think leads to it. Opps. I thought maybe I couldn't get them.

It's called deflector and it was my experience that you usually get it as an option at low level. It's one of the cheapest to learn in terms of total cost.

EDIT: Eh, maybe I don't know for sure what you were after anyways because I see deflectors come before shields. But, if I read that chart right, you don't always get everything as some choices depend on what you've already chosen and also on some of your government and other choices. It's pretty complex for me to be sure, for sure.  ???
