Could use a little help with trouble shooting computer issue
« on: November 29, 2017, 11:41:26 AM »
On guys and gals...

I tried to get on my computer a little bit ago and it wouldn't post. It tried to start but shuts off a second or so later then tried to start again. In the beginning the fans wouldn't even come on when it was trying to start. So I went through removing one thing at a time to see if it was a specific piece of hardware. No change. So I took out my cmos battery. When I replaced it with only a breadboard set up the fans came in this time as it tried to start.

The past few days it's been slower than usual starting is the only symptoms it's showed. I'm thinking it's either the psu or motherboard. Leaning more towards the MB. I currently don't have an extra psu available to test and I really don't want to buy one and it be the MB.

So what do you guys think? Appreciate any input and thanks in advance!!!

Sounds like MB...when I had my issues i thought it was the PSU, so i replaced and still had issues...when I returned and explained, expert told me, when a PSU fails, it fails...it wont have intermentant issues. So yeah, i'm leaning towards mobo. But i do recommend buying a psu and if not just return it. It's WAY easier to instal/re-instal a PSU than it is a mobo, with new software and what not...goodluck, keep us posted.

You can test the PSU. Would need someone to search how as I’m on mobile right now.

It is the mobo. Bought a psu from Fry's and breadboard it and it still has the same issues.

But...

I have the Intel 1150 chipset so if course no local places still carry it. I'm going to have to get it from an online retailer or upgrade....grrr

I'm guessing you have tested the memory, I remember years ago, my computer wouldnt post or start and the memory was the issue, can't remember if all i did was replace or just reseat the ram sticks though.

Yeah I tested every component just to narrow down the issue. Breadboaring is a term for starting the computer with only the mobo connected. This ruling out every other piece. It has the same symptoms even with a New psu.

Just ordered a new mobo from Newegg should be here tomorrow. I'll keep everyone posted.

would it be less expensive to buy a new cpu/mobo combo....or that specialized chipset mobo?

Found a few online for about 70-75. So it wasn't much at all. But I know it's only a matter of time that I will be able to keep my current rig. I'll most likely have to buy a whole new system next time I have an issue. Guess it's time to start saving up for one. Haha

Hmmm, ok guys...

Might have to upgrade! Can you guys suggest a decent bargain mobo, psu and ram? I have a 1060, my hdd/ ssd, etc can be salvaged.

Mobo should have 1 pcie 16x slot, 2 sticks ram and can be on board sound but would be nice to have on board sound blaster or good sound.

Thanks guys

Yeah I'm looking at amd too just because the price.

You think the suggestions from https://pcbuildsonabudget.com/best-gaming-pc-build-under-500-dollars-2018 are pretty good?

I’ll second the amd being cheaper even though I didn’t OC my cpu.

It's been a terror.
It was a mixture of things. My MoBo. So I replaced it. Got it in the mail and it still had the same symptoms. Went through everything again and was at a complete loss so I broke down and put it in the shop to have a diagnostic run on it.

They told me that it was a memory stick that was bad. And since I replaced the MoBo my OS didn't want to load. They wanted to charge me $100 to put the OS on. $35 to replace the memory. I chuckled to myself and said thank you for what ever they did to get my BIOS to boot.

I took it home this afternoon after buying 2 new sticks of memory and started to put the OS back on. (Actually it just ended up needing a repair) and low and behold it still had the same symptoms. It wasn't anything wrong with the memory it turned out that the 2nd memory slot was bad on the NEW MoBo.

SO grrr... I have a cross ship set up for tomorrow. All in all it cost me 49.99 for the new MoBo. and 49.99 for the Diagnostic. But I should be back 100% tomorrow afternoon.

I'm looking around to see if I can find any great deals on a new AMD setup but I will probably wait till the first part of the year to upgrade. (Unless I can find a fantastic deal I can't pass up)

pcs are nightmares when something goes wrong....my pc use to lock up and i hard to hard restart it and it was good during raids, finally found out was a bad cpu, that when i bought this beast with a liquid cooler...stayed at 31degrees regular, so overclocked it and is staying at 48 degrees while ocng the hell out of it, so In the long run, everything worked out. Hope your journey ends soon aswell.
