FYI - Pielady, my main, has not been forced to change.  It is only Piewing and Velvetpain that had to be changed.

Compound names are not totally out of the question.
"9. Comprised of partial or complete sentences that are obviously out of place (e.g., "Getpwned", "Luvtodance", etc), though compound names that are fitting of RIFT, its people, the actions taken therein, and its setting are acceptable. Compound names are an important and valid part of every fiction, and ours is no different."

Piewing came about from the naming protocols in LOTRO.  THEY suggested adding the "wing" to a name to make it RP friendly.  I did so there and brought the name here when making alts to my main.

Velvetpain I guess I understand more.  Even though my thinking was, "she looks nice, but will hurt you," it does not pass the baby naming test.  Do we all go by our birth names? Are nicknames never acceptable for RP?

But, as you said Elytharra....there are so many names that are far worse.  I just don't want to deal with others' naming issues.  It's not my style to bring heat on others because I am mad.  It is simply my issue about disagreeing with their conclusion about my names, and how long they took to take this action, their internal politics aside.

I don't believe my name was reported.  I believe this took place after I did an in-game support request.  I believe that may have generated an account review which started this.  Just keep that in mind before you consider writing up a ticket.

At this point, I have renamed the offending characters, and will probably keep my subscription as long as they leave Pielady alone.  But....I still think the issue with my other names is a Trion tempest in a teapot.  I am not and never have been a Trion basher.  However.....this is "one....."

Thanks to all for your kind words....I did love all of my names and they meant something to me, my reasoning, and the development of my characters. Never thought I was "getting away with" anything.

McLuvin; a name specifically mentioned in Trions rules as an example of against the rules is used on both Sunrest and Faeblight.  Defient on both servers IIRC the sunrest toon.

My primary issues are two things:  1) the rules as posted are enforced very sporatically  2) most enforcements are based on player reporting you; which on many toons, like mine, truly just used to grief a player.  The only player name I have ever reported was offensive; Gangraper.

I mean what if some dude named Scott or Scotty used thier real life given name?  would that be considered a violation since the NPC Scotty is a central charactor for a quest arch?

The Avengers have nothing on TG in the badassery department (but they probably have us on looks). Assign one of our own to Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow, and Hawkeye.

This is outrageous. Normally I don't get upset over things that happen in an MMO, but this -- and what happened to MadMartigan recently -- I find it all very outrageous. The way the rules are laid out, I think anyone could be reported and lose their name. I'd be very interested to know whether or not SWTOR is going to have a similar setup (I assume they will).

Dervish;  I have been looking on the SWTOR forums and website for hints and direct comment on the naming convention rules; but have not found anything concrete on the subject yet.

I've been trying to be polite and helpful in other threads where I see fellow TG guildies that are planning on highly non-RP character names for Star Wars.  There's *NO* frigging way that names like "Thedoctor", "Beanieweanie", "Pielady", etc. will be tolerated if we end up on a RP-PvP server in Star Wars, like I think most of us would prefer.  You might as well suck it up and try to come up with something a little more appropriate now, so you're not all angry when you get a CS letter a week after release telling you that you have to change your character names.

But that is just it; I had the name Madmartigan since early access.  We started on sunrest (RP-pvp) and moved to Faeblight (RP-PVE).  I had no issues for the first 5 months of the game.  I had several direct, in-game contact with GMs due to broken quests, ect.  and you no what, no problems.

Then some jerk doesn't like that I beat them to 2 daily quest item (fungus in stilmoor for the PVP daily) and I ignored his /poke and /shrug emotes.  I complete my quest 5 minutes later, log out.  sitting at my PC checking email and a new email comes in detailing that I have been reported for a name violation and I have to change.

This is not naming convention rules being enforced; it is revenge griefing on that jerks part.

Having multiple names is a normal for fantasy characters.  Maybe Velvet Pain isn't her given name, but rather a trade name or pseudonym she uses, or a name attributed to her by her enemies that she ended up liking and co-opting.  IMO, the mommy and daddy elf test is not particularly useful.  They specifically note that "compound names that are fitting of RIFT, its people, the actions taken therein, and its setting are acceptable."

Hi Pie:

Its snow.  I am truly sorry that this bs had to happen to you of all people as well as others like Mad.  One of the truly compelling reasons why I transferred back to Sunrest and off of that fail Faeblight server.  How they could possibly say that those two names are somehow violations is ridiculous.

Bunch of whining RP carebears who have nothing better to do than harass people whos names are somehow deemed offensive to their so called "immersion."

My two cents.
