Closing the Rift Division
« on: November 30, 2011, 10:32:31 AM »
Hey Everyone,

To Keep this short and sweet, I wanted to make an official announcement that we'll be moving the Rift Division down to the Planning & Discussion forums and will no longer be supporting it as an official TG Division.  The only difference this will really make is that we won't require Guardians who play Rift to play under our tag and that the Division won't be represented by a Division Leader at the Council level. Members who want to continue playing the game under the TG tag are welcome to do so.

The Rift Division's brief success in TG brought us a lot of very good members and for that I will always remember it.  I'd like to thank Thranx and Airic for their stewardship of the Division, as well as the many good officers who kept things running for so many months.  With a new game on the horizon, I'm grateful that so many Guardians were able to use Rift to get to know each other better and form friendships that will carry into the next game and many more.  That's what TG is all about.

Sad, even though I joined for SWTOR my first game with TG was rift.

Got to know many members that way.

/salute to rift.

The Avengers have nothing on TG in the badassery department (but they probably have us on looks). Assign one of our own to Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow, and Hawkeye.

What about moving it into 'other games'?

I just saw several Apps for RIFT come through - has it really faded that much...so soon and so quickly?

What happened?

Lyrianne quit playing and it was down hill from there.

I'm guessing the swtor beta weekend and the realization that early release is only 2 weeks away.

For me it was real life things that pulled me away from rift, it amazed me how much life changes when you have a kid.

I wouldn't count the game of Rift out completely.  Enough people played that it might make a resurgence at some point.  We've seen interest in games like SWG and LOTRO fade quickly and then spring back from time to time.  The same might happen with Rift.  While the interest from TG's members has faded for the time being, we'll always be open to bringing the Division back if member interest warrants it.

*puts on robe and "honesty" hat*

I hate to be the blunt one here, but "What happened?" is that Rift was a poorly designed total WoW clone with stupid lore (e.g., no real reason at all to "hate" the other side enough to want to kill them, for starters), completely boring, unimaginative world design, boring races (human/elf/dwarf/YAWN!), horrendous PvP at end game (totally 100% gear-based, so the kiddies with no jobs automatically own your ass), bald-faced liars for devs (making a Character Naming Policy then choosing to ignore it, for one big example that burns my britches), etc., etc.

Good riddance.  Maybe when Rift is FTP in a year, MMO devs/investors will learn to acquire some creative people before they start on their venture.

So it all went that way, huh…
To be honest, the was weak and design, as noted, was nowhere near interesting or original. But still, it kept some of us playing for quite a while. I guess my prime reason to play it for so long was their unofficially official support of Wine and non-M$Windows players.

I'm not a big fun of StarWars universe (even though I do love the movies), but I do understand that many people like it very much and certainly there're no reasons to stick with anything, Rift especially, with SWTOR coming online that soon.
But for what it's worth, Rift did gave me and many other Guardians quite a number of great play hours. Thank's Trion.

This isn't to say you can't still play the game as a Guardian or remain a Guardian even without a game to play. I went four years or more without a TG supported game to play. :)

True!  What about the officers and leader?  I assume they still remain that so in game, right?

Who has the lead and invite ability in RIFT, in case, when, if, we get applicants.

Pie can still invite people to the Guild ingame.  Airic is still Guild Lead in game as well.  I still have an active account if I need to jump in for anything.

I look forward to when SWTOR launches - so all the kiddies will go plague that game and leave the gem that is Rift alone.
I'm still playing. Still raiding. Have 6 (or is it 7) raid ready chars with no plans to go look at some lame space opera silliness anytime soon.

Green grass chasers. Good riddance.
