Many people I believe are displeased with cata because of one of/or all of the following statements:

a) Many people expected some major changes from the last expansion.
b) With every expansion, you are pretty much starting over from scratch even though you just continue to level.
c)  Quest, farm, grind...then end game.  Same shit different expansion.
d) Difficult to find an end game group or any group for that matter...with raids fitting in a 10 man scenario...no longer are big guilds needed.  Once you have your 10 buddies...thats it...

Another big issue that's going to bite blizzard in the ass...Many many many people have access to Pandaria Beta...so many people are already playing it and I believe it will go stagnate for those who are currently playing and will not purchase it come release.

D: is it true you have to have all the other expansions to even play on MoP?

Yes, you need the expansions. The older expansions are pretty cheap.

Part of it, or at least for me, is the game has passed it's zenith. I've done everything I've wanted to do. The thought of "new content" isn't exciting because certain parts of the "new content" involved starting a new toon and doing all the old stuff. Normally, that would be fun. Yeah they redid a lot of zones, streamlined areas and improved the leveling speed. But after you did this with a few added classes, it's just old. Same engine too. Just too much of the same thing.

That's my take on it. I went so far as to delete all my toons because I really am over it and didn't want the distraction of resubbing just to see what was different, only to ignore the game immediately after logging in, which I've done a couple of times. Total waste of time and money (for me). Now it's over for good and much easier to move on to the other several dozens of MMO's as well as hundreds of games that aren't MMO's.

edit: p.s. I'm not saying the game stinks, only that I've reached my limit. I can't be alone on a game that old.

The reason WoW lost its luster for me after Burning Crusade was they started streamlining the content.  I was a hardcore raider in Vanilla and Burning Crusade.  I didn't like the changes they were making to the way raiding worked and the difficulty of the content.  I understand that they wanted to make it more accessible to more people, but I feel they went about it the wrong way.  I don't think they tried enough to cater to both groups of people.

Also, I feel that PvP had way too big of an effect on the PvE side of the game.  This was exacerbated even more when Arenas were introduced to the game (worst addition ever, imo).  Too many times I watched entire classes get nerfed/buffed/or changed because of how well they were doing with specific other group makeups in arenas.

TL;DR: They changed too much stuff in the game that I enjoyed, so I slowly lost my desire to continue to play.

Personally, I did think Cataclysm was done pretty well.
I'm not even saying that just because I liked it, but I believe they legitimately did a lot of things right with it.

Questing became a lot better than what it was, and has an actual relevance to everything around and wasn't completely awful compared to old school questing. (Hey, wanna go to all the way to Feralas and Winterspring to get me 5 livers from the animals there?)

Unlike Wrath, it had actual instances in it, and for a while Heroics became a lot less mindless and I had fun with it.

When content patches dropped, I was completely surprised that the servers weren't irradiated over the next two days, and pvp-wise it didn't seem as "fast-forward" as wrath, or as healer dominated as it was in BC.

Did I think it was perfect? No, but I really thought they did a lot with the game and did it right.

The community is awful, and sometimes there is truth in what they say, but a lot of times they will be insatiable.
