Title: Fortnite Game Night!
Post by: Thranx on September 08, 2017, 12:00:56 PM
(https://www.guardianhq.com/MGalleryItem.php?id=1451)

Short Notice!

If you own fortnite, even if you've only played a little, join us in-game tonight for some great fun!  One of the graet things about this game is that players of varies levels can play together effectively.  Show up, we'll make some groups, share some weapons and have a great time.

Pardon the day-of short notice, but with the recent storms update for Fortnite it creates a perfect opportunity to get together in-game.  Show up tonight a little before 7PM PST and we'll get rolling right at 7.  The goal is to knock out a couple 3 day storms to get a feel for the gameplay and the game mode, then we'll schedule another night to ramp up the difficulty.

See you tonight!

I've watched some game play of this and it looks pretty epic! Though seeing the packages on their website I'm not sure what the deal is. If I get the basic one is it easy to earn all the characters and stuff in-game?

Unless it's changed in the past 1-2 months, all heroes-except those given via campaign, are all RNG from llamas. They give you 1 of each class and an item to upgrade a hero to legendary.

there are 5 packages, iirc, as there is one beyond the 4 listed on the screen.

I loved the core gameplay but hate the monetization.

Yea, the packages are just extra heroes and more day of getting an extra founder llama each day.  It's all rando outside of the package buy.  The nice thing is that if you buy the base and decide you wanted a bigger package... they just let you upgrade at any time for the difference.  So, you can get in on it for the cheap price and see if you think it's worth it first.

I was interested in the game but heard a lot of negative feedback about it so I didn't grab it. May watch you guys play and pick it up if I like what I see.

I love the core gameplay: salvage, build, defend. it's the way everything was behind the llamas that upset me.

I may hop on at a later date to check out the battle royale.

I heard about the mode and thought that was the dumbest thing they could ever do.

I then watched the trailer, and am suddenly intrigued.

Grabbed the game. Probably wont be in-game tonight though.

Are all the nights going to be 7pm PST? If it's a weekday that's pretty late for me since I start work super early  :s

Played the crap out of the game last night (only the pve part), think I am level 9 now. I am addicted for the time being but I don't see myself playing it for longer than a month, it is pretty repetitive. Although it depends if they update the content and make it more exciting.

Going to try out the pvp tonight or tomorrow and see how it is, maybe it will be fun.

Haha, excellent.  Yea, it's pretty fun.

PVP is good.  It's a little too vicious... as in you die REAL quick.  I'm sure that'll be balanced... but I am DEADLY with a revolver from way across a field.  Like, murdertime.

I might get it.  Possible that a co worker can hook me up, or GMG has the VIP discount on top of the %25.. just not sure yet.  My issue is my hours aren't standard and I don't want to get stuck with no one to play with. ;p It looks pretty fun though - pve part, not the pvp h1z1 clone heh.

Played pvp lastnight, I was worried they would have abilities and it wouldn't be balanced properly but it seems like they eliminated leveling and special abilities for the pvp which I like. The map is fairly small and doesn't feel like pubg but it is still fun, if they could make it more worth playing  the pvp element I think it would give me incentive to play more but from what I can tell it is just the base game for now.

Played three games last nigth and died within 3 minutes in the first two, the third I found a rocket launcher and make it to 5th place. Don't plan on playing much until squad play and incentives are in.

Made it a lot farther in PVE last night, I think my new build is level 15 and I unlocked the new zone and found out that all missions aren't the same easy repetitive ones as in the first zone so I may end up playing this a while if they keep it interesting. Getting a bunch of rare scematics helps.

If anyone doesn't know this games seems to be all about leveling up your collections and getting your survivor builds right, then hoping you get good scematics. Save your vbucks for the rare llamas on the right and do missions that give tickets for the other llama.

Collections don't grant you additional power... they do give you extra loot tho.

Squads, Research and the Skill Tree contribute to your overall power.

Stats go up via research and skill tree unlocks

More slots for your squads are unlocked in both the skill and research trees.

Squad members gain a bonus of their "personality" matches the team leader's

Squad members have secondary bonuses that are activated if they match with another squad member (in groups of 2 or 3)

Just saying that people don't realize that survivors play a part in determining your level, there really wasnt a good explanation and I had to look it up, once I matched up my survivors right and leveled some I was doing significantly better.

The collections are important for leveling everything, which is why I mentioned it, people may think it is just for fun but it plays an integral part of the game giving you the mats and rare loot to help level up and hit harder.

The rest of the leveling stuff is fairly straight forward.

I was watching some reviews and apparently there's a wall you eventually hit. The drop r ate of the top tier stuff from the llamas is apparently abysmal currently. Was reading stories of people dropping $300+ in llamas and not getting anything decent. I'm sure it'll improve though.

I consider Collections to be a long term project something you do as you're bored or are reaching max inventory.

Squads are your armor in other game. It's where 90% of your level and stats comes from.

I have gotten over 10 skill levels, 200,000 xp for survivors, heros and rare scems and upgrades, upgrades for evolving my characters, weapons, traps and at least 20 lllamas. If it wasn't for collections id probably be half my level.

My co worker hooked me up!  ATM it's only at work but will install tonight at home.  >> FyreOpal.

I'm still in the tut tho.  I was also advised to NOT add things to collections right away since the people(squads?) can be added to themselves to strengthen them and to use blueprints first.  Mostly add collections if you've got lots of dupes is the way I understand it.

keep the best blueprint, you can collect or recycle the rest! the drops are similar to Diablo 3, the stats are random.

the games gives you a bunch of tokens, save those for legendary/goblin/gremlin llamas.

I agree. It also depends how many specs and heros you want to use and what you need. For example I use a ninja and a soldier so I have worked my butt off to get a good melee weapon and assault rifle, even if I get good other scems I collect them unless they are the highest rank, you get a ton of collection xp for that. But, you have to be committed to certain specs in order to do that, ive collected a couple epic pistols and other things already.

When I started I double checked everything to make sure I didn't need it, the last thing you want to do is ad something to the collection you need. Once I start using things that were all blue I got rid of most of my greens, then I started using the next level and got rid of all of my blues. You really want to check to start off, but the safest way to do it off of the bat is to only collect doubles of things.

I am not sure if I was just super lucky or what but I am pulling in like 50-60 items a day and collecting maybe 10 things as well. I don't recycle unless it has already been collected since recycling doesn't give much these days. Apparently is used to be a lot better.
Title: Re: Fortnite Game Night!

Also, if you level up anything it is best to retire or recycle it because you get back xp, never collect something that has been leveled unless it has only been leveled a little and the xp you will get from it isnt worth it..

I think you do a couple of tutorial missions, the game doesnt really start until you get your first base, then the map opens up.

The main map has a fog of war that opens as you level your base, there is no open world only icons on the map that open up. Farming and exploring is done within the missions. There is also a survive the night(s) mode that opens up once you get around level 15.

Ah I see. So I've just avoided exploration for now. I always end up going for the "complete this mission in two days" reward. Which I think may be less because I at most only get silver in all areas.

I don't think there is, I break down everything piece by piece, if you hit the circle that pops up it is significantly faster though.

smash every piece touching the ground and the top will crumble. if they're all on the ground, hit the edit and get them to their smallest piece. 1 square for ground and 1x2 for walls and/or friends to smash! or run a defend the shield and let the husk destroy it.

Thanks. I discovered that if I stand at an angle with enough distance and just hit the corner the blue circle doesn't move so it smashes pretty quick. Just wish there was a delete tool in the stormshield.

What's the fastest way to gather nuts and bolts? I need them for everything I craft and to do a mission it takes an hour of farming them to do it successfully. Then again maybe I'm just overdoing my defenses.

there is a mission later to build a storm shelter during the mission you have to find cloaked diamond shaped robots. some of them are loot caches that drop 25-100 bolts a time. you can start one up solo and farm that. its hwat i did,

Though PvE building I assume is completely different than PvP building. Since the AI is pretty simple.

Though I was doing an atlas mission and the husks found a way to drop down on top of it. Slaughtered me.

Not sure if they were dropping down from a higher angle, but if they weren't there is a special mob that throws husks into your base. Pain in the butt to kill too.

No the atlas was below a bridge and they broke through the bridge and just jumped down onto the top of it. Does huge damage too lol

I'm some what stuck on my main quest. I need to do two 9+ missions and kill 4 husk spawners. I tried it solo but it really didn't work out since the mission goal was to destroy 6 spawn points and I only could do 5. Is any one available Saturday? Not sure why but I'm struggling with 15+ missions. I'm at 15, have an 800+ DPS assault rifle and defenders. But when ever I do a defend mission it seems I'm just being chewed through. I only drop down tier 1 walls, usually metal. I can upgrade to tier 3 but sometimes that's a chore, like if I'm doing metal walls in a forest.  Are tier 3 wood walls better than tier 1 metal? Most of my traps are level 5+ but most are green. My hero is a 2 star level 15 blue soldier (Banshee). Not sure what I'm missing.

Any ideas on how to improve?

You can't really get hit much at higher levels no matter how good your gear is. It is all about creating trap paths that kill mobs and focus on killing specials. Are you playing in a group? Most higher level quests can't be done solo very easily. If you are talking about a storm base defense you need top of the line everything if you are soloing and some good traps.

Nah my Storm Shield base is pretty epic because I just focused on building it up for a few days. I was doing a 15 ATLAS mission. I had to retrieve some radio data. I guess making a simple 5x5 base around it no longer works.
